Would love to read on SF

As far as I’m aware there’s now a multimedia immersive experience where one can view greatly enlarged bits of van Gogh’s and others’ paintings projected on the walls

Ghastly!

Have dim memories of seeing Das Boot as an eight hour overnight epic in a Manchester art house cinema a long time ago. However today, I remember the following morning’s Jewish cafe breakfast better than I remember the actual film.

Possibly. But very French. The French do son et lumière very well. This is from Narbonne Cathédrale Saint-Just just before Christmas. It was part of a story of the history of the Cathédrale.

So true - especially if you loose your partner. I know some people come over on their own , and that’s one thing. But to come over as a couple and then to find yourself on your own is different. I think I’m almost at the point of returning - 3 years after my husband died . I’m lonely here now ( not alone - I have pjenty of friends - but lonely) and to be nearer my daughters and siblings would be great.

I think they’re at the back of the fishing harbour at La Pallice. The old German Officer’s mess, in a bomb proof building, in the town has become a tourist attraction but I’ve never visited it.

The abbatiale at Conques has a superb romanesque Last Judgement carved into the tympanum over the main door, the link below is to a very short video of it being illuminated. I’ve seen this son et lumière which in real life lasts about half an hour, absolutely wonderful

I found myself in the same boat just over 13 years ago so know how you feel but I decided there was no point in going back as had been away for so long, my siblings have their own families and friends and at the time, my parents were still alive but one in a home and the other beginning to have things go wrong and I did not want to end up without a home of my own either and what I would have got back then for the house here, would not have bought very much to the same size and quality in the same area. My family are close here, two grandchildren whom I see a lot of and even living back up in Bretagne, I would have only seen them maybe once a year, twice at a push. Before you sell up and return to the UK, work out how much better you would be here especially if you fell ill or needed home care, the UK has lost all that now. Oh and as an aside, my sister said last night that my BIL had been having pains in his legs really bad and the earliest for a GP to see him will be 3/4 weeks time only.
