Buying a used car in France

Currently I’m leasing a “buy back” promotion but it is costly. I have Spanish residency but plan to stay in France. I am still using my non-EU license coupled with the international permit. I plan to stay about another 6 months while sorting out life.

I’ve heard cars are cheaper in Germany than France.

As in North America, there are services which rank and evaluate used cars so you will have a market idea. Does such service as Kelly Blue Book or CarFax exist? They also provide info on the chain and quality of title.

Must I have a fixed address to buy a car since I’m touring? Cc an I give my Spanish address even if I buy it outside of Spain?

There is the Argus, which gives the 'value' of used cars.

You can buy a car second-hand in a garage (probably the safest bet, you have some sort of guarantee after all), you have to sort out the insurance & have an address for the carte grise. If you buy it all in one go I don't think your address being in Spain will be a problem, it might be (sorting out the bank etc) if you were to buy it in instalments.

A used car is worth what you are willing to pay for it so go & look around & talk to garage people.
