Hello everyone
If you are retiring to France before retirement age,no house in the UK,not working and therefore unable to get into the french system, could you or should you use the EHIC card for 90 days before taking out full medical insurance? I’m only asking because presumably we wouldn’t yet be deemed to be potential French citizens?

Thank you but this is no longer the case as you can’t get an S1 form any longer unless you are working. Shame but there it is…
Although you cant use the eh1c card you should be covered for health for your first 2 years in France if you have paid social contributions in the UK. I know I was. Contact dept of works and pensions to start the ball rolling once you arrive. 2 years is better than nothing.
