Looking for work

has anyone got any work going? I am hard working and alway's on time

hello. thank you very much for your help. I will try what you have said and see if that work's. this time of year it is hard to find work. thank you very much. I must say everyone on here is very nice and helpfull

Hi Peter, can you make yourself a flyer on a brochure-sized paper and pop them into neighbouring letterboxes (and local library)? When the economy was down here lots of people put things in our letterbox advertising work they do. If you have a siret number be sure to include that. Another suggestion is to join a group - and by this I mean a walking group, nature group, photography group, in your area. Talk to people - people are always looking for workers but don't necessarily say anything until they meet someone who is in that trade. For example, my hubby is a carpenter/builder and the other day I had someone collecting unwanted jars from me - when she saw his workshop she asked if he could do a certain type of work. So you never know where the work comes from but you need a network to make a start. Another option is to find someone else in your area who is doing similar work and ask if they need a helper from time to time. Yet another - we have an electronic 'flyer' in our region and people advertise there for work (to English speakers). Good luck!

hello. thank you for your kind word's. how far are you as maybe we could work something out. I work hard and always do my best but this time of year it's hard to find work

Hello Peter, I am also new to this site and have joined because I am struggling to do up my house and would love to find someone to help. I have looked at Mappy and you are an incredibly long way from me ! However, it is admirable of you to request work in such a simple and honest way. I wish you the best chance in finding it and note that you have offered folk the chance to call people for whom you have worked before. :)

thanx for you kind word's. I am not a builder but more you second pair of hand's. willing to help with any job's you have going.

thank you verymuch for your help. that is very kind of you. I will give them a try. THANX ONCE MORE

Like me....not being 31 but by being bad with computors.
Hope I get forgiven but have almost given up on the silly remarks I

often get about spelling etc.

Just look forward.

thank you very much for you kind message. it was very nice of you. im your second pair of hand's. anything you need help with I would be more than happy todo. I live in montlucon but am more than happy to drive down to where the work is. how long have you been in france and what do you do?

hello everyone. yes I am new here and not very good with computer's. thank you everyone for your help. I am 31 year's old and have been in france for 11 year's now. I live in montlucon (dep 03) and my mum and dad live in gueret (dep 23). I have done lot's of work for French and English over the year's. I am not a builder but more your second pair of hand's. if you need any job's doing I will be happy to do them. sorry my cv is not the best but like I say the best cv is my work. I work hard and am alway's on time. I can give number's of people who I have helped over the year's.

try this to begin with its the french job centre website - not the best site in terms of its friendliness or ease of use but will help you understand the local economy / opportunities in different regions.

http://www.pole-emploi.fr/accueil/

But to echo the others you need to be more specific about where you want to work / live etc

Thank you Elaine for understanding that we need to be positive.

Everything I do brings me to the edge of my comfort zone because I am not

wildly confident....If I was, perhaps I would be living in that twinkle twinkle world

of Michelin stars and Botoxed prof kitchens talking to the press about the magic of my

latest restaurant....

that makes money.....but it is not just about confidence....I guesse it is about doing something

different, special and not fighting for it.

So who wants to fight? No one.

Search to find that something that no one else can do as well as you.

Even if it is to grow runner beans.

Our initial project seems to be working.

So the ideas keep flowing.

I hoping to work with an established architecht to improve his work flow....bringing some

more jobs to the artisan workers, existing chateaux/vineyards in our region and adding some

fun venues for fine dining or specialised tea rooms. My part will be as a consultant to the architecht

and chateaux owner to create an income producing portion of their property which previously sat idol.

It is a win win situation for everyone as long as pricing remains realistic in all depts.

For those who have slightly larger budgets I have contacts who work in furniture design, speciality

sculpture, garden fantasy and a private fashion show set to the sounds of harp music with flowy

gowns and delightfuly transformed models.

My young fashion designer friend deserves a brake through and keeps trying.

His latest designs are including chocolate garments and perhaps working on gold and silver

elements in the 'fabric'

None of this is crazy as I was involved with folly from a young age.

But there is something out there for every one to find...

if they so desire.

Barbara,
I so enjoyed reading your comment. It’s one of the things about being a foreigner in another country, it’s amazing the diversity of things we can do, aside from what we think we know.
Moving out of the comfort zone, really broadens our horizons, gifts, talents and ability to network etc
Peter, welcome to SFN, tell us about your skill sets and where you’re based…

Peter not everyone is filled with negative thoughts.

And I have been pleasantly suprised at what some people have achieved here in

France.

But you will have to work very hard at using your skills at searching, talking, looking

and creating in order to find your place in France.

What did you do in UK?

Is there something which you can do which will add to the well being

of your region?

Let me look around....well in my general area there is a Thai women who cooks Thai

food in the market and for fetes....she is a busy woman.

There is a couple somewhere in Dordogne with Yurts....

There is a cattery in St Foy La Grande....the lady who runs it seems very happy.

There are a few very sucessful wedding planners....

some with their own chateaux and some gifted with determination and imagination.

Free lance immobiliers, elaberate celebration cake bakers and lots of us

who offer strangers a place to sleep for the night in return for help paying

our taxes.

Sometimes we need to be adaptable and take on more than one type of work

and often we have to carry on working way past our 'sell by date'

But this really is only a problem if we allow it to be. In my region the vine

owners work on their land untill they are really old.

Absolutely agree Grahame but it goes against the spirit of SFN to be less than charming - esp. to newcomers so let's try to be helpful please? xx

Ok Grahame - a fair point but Peter has only just joined SFN and is probably not yet used to how the site works, so perhaps we can all be helpful rather than sarky, even if unintentionally?

Peter - what kind of stuff are you looking for?
