Bizarre & Classic Car Owners

Salut!

My car isn't a classic (yet!) and I don't think it's bizarre, although it's definitely rare, especially in this country -

Registering it in France was simple, but I cheated and used a specialist foreign vehicle importer in Belgium, just over the border from Lille. There was obviously a price to pay but, for me, well worth it to avoid the stress and time to do it myself.

I've just realised that very few of you let me know if the information you ask for which I have offered an answer is of any use to you. I hope this is not a group trend? Has anyone else looked at http://www.retro.fr/ or had a favourable quote elsewhere?

I have just rescued a 1964 Daimler mk 2 V8 from a barn where it has been for quite a few years.

It was in the process of being restored but has not been touched for a few years. It has also suffered a bit from vandals, but not badly. I have been told that the engine & gearbox have been overhauled.

As it is not big or green it is not of interest to me so if someone wants to make an offer?

Planning on going to UK on Sunday, to pick up a classic Fiat 500. Know it's short notice but, anyone got a suitable trailer I can use, within an hour or so of Civray, please?

Hi Colin,

Try http://www.retroassur.com/tarifs.php

They cover my military trucks very cheaply!

Any tips as to the best people to contact with regards to insuring classic/old vehicles. This is something I have to look into shortly so if any body out there can offer good advice it would be much appreciated. Ta

Hi all, another update on my car, MVO Roadster. The wheels are in motion to get the car to France, as in the paper work and the car is now running after the fitting of the new sump, electronic distributor and HT leads. The car is now dark blue and am awaiting the revised log book to be sent to me. I have several pictures at various angles and a picture of the chassis plate. A friend of mine who is fluent in Fr has spoken to the people at FFVE to judge the response to the car being registered, this was after 2 photographs were emailed to them. So we have down loaded the form, we will print off the pictures and get copies of the documents required and send it off with a cheque for 50 euro's and 4 postage stamps. Hopefully this will all be done by the end of the coming week. So fingers crossed that it will go smoothly.

Hi Brian,

Did you look at the FFVE site? It is mind blowingly simple to get a classic car registered here!

1) Bring car here

2) Take photo of car & chassis plate.

3) Download form from FFVE site, fill in & send off.

4) Await nice certificate.

Now get your vehicle CT'd in the normal way, changing the headlights if necessary. If they are standard round ones these are really cheap!

The rest of the paperwork is the same for any EU import - Quittas Fiscal from the Tresor Public, old log book or export certificate, photo ID & proof of French address. Job done! Not painful at all.

All the best,

Mark

Hi Brian,I reprint my reply to a member 2 years ago on this site.

Hi Greg, You need the services of the FFVE! This is the Federation Francaise des Vehicules d'Epoque & they will help you by confirming that your car is what you say it is in the form of a very natty looking certificate. This does not cost the earth nor is it difficult to get. Download all you need from their web site www.ffve.org/ ,
Make a photocopy of the certificate as the prefecture will keep the original - at least they did when I imported "Wanted", see photo.
The rest of the paperwork is the same as that for registering any other imported car.

Look what came in the post this week from Original Memories car club in Milwaukee to say thank you for a recent donation for the charity auction at their annual car show, they sent me two t shirts and a metal dash plaque, what a nice surprise.I guess it's true what they say, what goes around comes around ... I sent them this Pinstriped Moon Disc and am told it went for 1200 dollars so a good result all around ![](upload://4Ko1TFEjmAHoqJjbYPTJS10GlKR.jpg)

I will let you know how the install went when it's done, mid october i think ...

Hello again, thought id share my next headache with you guys as i'm sure you've all had issues with the black art that is Automobile electrics. well my Chevy is sixty years old and had a wiring loom that looks like spaghetti junction.Over the years it has been chopped and changed by who knows ho many people , Wouldn't it be nice it there was a log book of sorts for each car just for wiring, you know so owners could note what changes they have made to the electrics so that future owners wouldn't have to scratch their heads to the sound of buzz buzz fizzle crack pop... Well i bit the bullet and ordered a new loom from EZ wiring in the states.21 circuits already fused and ready to install.Luckily my buddy Alex used to wire up race cars and is coming down from Provence to give me a dig out. i can see it now, windows that go up and down,an accurate fuel gauge, window wipers that work( i also bough a window wiper kit from EZ Wiring) it's the simple things in life you know ... Great value for money by the way and can be used in any car, here is the link http://www.ezwiring.com

One of my favorate You Tube clips

Hi all, a little update on my car, the one in the pic which had a hole smashed in the sump last year when on my way to UK. I have replaced the sump and carried out some other minor repairs. I am also changing over to electronic ign with new plug leads as well so I hope it will perform a little better than it has over the last 2 yrs.The paintwork has seen better days as well so I am prepping it in readiness for a new lick of paint,Aston Martin ,Midnight Blue. I'm still pursuing Insurance and hopefully I will have the car back in France in May next year.

Therin lies the rub. I can only afford one vehicle! I wish I had space and money to have a 'sunday car', but whatever it is, it has to be shopper, people mover, advertising platform and sleeper! The new Astro is quite economical and much nicer to drive, but I miss my big old monster, and I really miss the sound of a V8 firing up.

Yes they are costly to run,not exactly commuter cars :-(

Lovely cars Jason.:) Before this one I had a GMC full size with a 350 chevvy in it, but I just couldn't afford it in the end

So here is my other Sedan Delivery,it's a 52 Pontiac, also running a Camaro 350 with Auto box and camaro front clip.this is the one i really want on the road

Hi guys,i'm new here too, this is me 53 Chevy Sedan Delivery running a 350 camaro motor and auto box
