Do you miss foods from around the world - where do you get them?

I give them a quick simmer even if they are tinned and thoretically don’t need it, let them cool stirring occasionally and all the skins just float to the top and can be got rid of. It beats nipping the skins off individually with fingers! I put cumin and mild chilli in. The tahini from the Lebanese shop is good value.

Great idea - otherwise I consider hummus tasteless gunk :face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting:

Good tip. Will try that next time.

Can’t remember now if it was the co-op or Morrison’s but one of them did a jalapeño hummus…which was one of my faves…I love jalapeños too…closest I’ve found so far is pickled piments verts…which are really small so not sure they are the same thing…???

Also available fresh in grand frais  along with Scotch Bonnets, Birdseyes, Habaneros…

While out shopping yesterday, I had a sudden yen for malt – the malt we kids had given us at school, back in the UK 1950s. Looked it up - it’s good for you. Can’t think why it came to mind - maybe I felt something lacking in my diet.

Now I’m on the hunt for a jar! Does it still taste as jummy as it did back in school?

Vimaltol? My Mum used to give me that… Didn’t know it still existed!

I only knew it as ‘malt’ back in the 1950s. I loved it, had a tablespoon full a day at school. I see there are other brands, like this is one. Might get some!

If you do get it, @Bonzocat , please report back! I loved Vimaltol which is probably why my mother stopped giving it to me and gave me some disgusting orange stuff instead. She was of the school that believed things weren’t any good if they didn’t taste horrible

Will do!

I like butterscotch, so will order some!

Having difficulty finding delivery options. Amazon UK sells it but can’t deliver to France! Will continue searching…

They do deliver the Potters Malt without cod liver oil

It’s ferocious expensive though. I believe something like this is very similar

I’m sure I’ve seen this stuff in our local bio shop.

I’m sure I’ve said it before but I miss British sausages. French ones aren’t bad but I’m not really a fan of the saucisse de Toulouse variety, and although our butcher makes nice saucisse de Francfort they’re only good in hot dogs.

Bangers and mash with an onion gravy just isn’t the same without a good banger.

We’ve got a thingy for the KitchenAid to make our own and have found various recipes for British varieties. One day we’ll try making our own.

Yes I’ve got one for my Kenwood but hubby needs to make a bit for it, the one time we tried it they were a funny consistency as we had to put it through twice. They tasted good though! Lidl do a sausage that tastes much like an English sausage but only in the summer. I must remember to stock up for the winter this year!

Oh thanks for the heads up. Will take a look too!

They look a bit odd as they are quite white, I think they may be precooked, they are German. They are lovely with gravy and mash or chips. I cook them in the oven or airfryer normally and they are nice on the BBQ. No bread added either, so GF for hubby. Kind of Cumberland in taste. Hang on and I’ll get a photo for you …

Will these do :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I had farming family neighbours who I got to know very well over the years. When some mates came for one of their 2 yearly boat holiday visits they brought some choice English sausages for La Grand Mére. We had some too and they were delicious.

After my mates had gone back to London, I asked La Grand Mere if she liked the sausages. She didn’t answer in the negative or affirmative but I knew her well enough to know she didn’t like them at all!

I just looked at Amazon FR and I can get an ordinary jar of Potter’s malt extract for 24.78 euros incl. delivery, shipped from UK. Still expensive but I‘ll give it a go, just this once. If it’s as full of goodness as they say, and I feel that it is, will try the cheaper French versions next time.
