PM Theresa May says there will be no attempt to remain inside EU

Thank you Catharine, nice of you to say so. The photo is on my to do list.

Well John you may or may not be a banana I couldn't possibly say.

But are you an EU banana?

Do you meet the alledged specifications?

If not then of course, you are automatically disqualified! What from is not immediately obvious but no doubt there is some bilateral treaty which covers the issue if only we could find it!!

Yes, GB may be in considerable difficulty outside the EU but the politicians are all, both sides, well aware of that. May is far from clueless and she's not switched sides overnight, she's accepted the 'poisoned chalice' challenge to negotiate GB out of the EU in the best way possible for the country, and her personal views are largely irrelevant. She's at least as capable as any of the other seniors in the Tory party at present and has more experience on the international stage than other actual contenders. I'm not a fan, but she's probably the best we could get from what's available for the unenviable task. What we do need now is a genuine HM Opposition, not a bunch of pseudo-tories pretending that their brand is better than the real tories.

All that banana regulation twaddle was just disingenious propaganda Peter. I would have thought you knew that. Anyway, Boris, Gove, Farago and Cameron are well out of the mess they've caused. What a bunch!

I agree she's probably no worse Rhys but it's going to take somebody extraordinary to sort out this mess IMO.

'whining' or 'sour grapes', same difference.

The UK and the EU are incompatible. Brexit is good news for all parties. The big winner should be Scotland if she manages to staty in, or rejoin, the EU, and be shot of Westminster who looks out for its own, and Westminster shows nothing but disdain for Scotland ('The Vow', for example), and Scotland voted massively to remain in the EU.

There now follows a flood of remarks on how Scotland can't go it alone, nya nya nya, forgetting that as a member state of the EU she won't be going it alone.

Westminster will be able to keep their Trident missiles in England and continue to suck up to Washington DC. Having Trident in England will create jobs for the unemployed down south.

So it's a win-win-win-don't-whine situation all round.

"in the light of the voters fraude quite probably committed by the remain side"

in light of? Is there any evidence, at all? Or is this more proof of the lies coming from the leave side?

The PLP have undermined the man since even before he was appointed. It's THEIR OPINION nothing more nothing less that he's inadequate, if they weren't politicians I'd be astonished at the arrogance they display. The media have taken their cue from the PLP reaction to his win 10 months ago. If he hasn't been the roaring success they look for in a leader they should look at their own inadequacies before they start looking at a man who if you strip away the corrupt medias smokescreen is a thouroughly decent man. His expenses for last year were apparently Ā£8.95 compare that with Anna Eagles cĀ£150,000 and tell me again who should lead?

No argument from me Rhys :) Maybe they need a Bird of Pray rather :) As you could have the curious irony that she might well be elected leader of the Labour party but no longer be an MP for that Labour Party. Might need a Philadelphia lawyer to work that one out. The Red Tories have made a complete hash of the Labour Party.

Barbara, he was a fool to trust the British electorate on such an important subject.

This is why we have a Parliamentary democracy in UK! But that seems to have been dismissed, which is rather odd when one of the main reasons of the Brexiteers was to establish the sovereignty of the UK Parliament. Perhaps it is only when it suits them.

One good thing though, I have never seen the awful IDS looking so unhappy as when Andrea Leadsom announced her withdrawal from the Tory leadership race.

Anthony, a very reasoned account and, unfortunately, representing what has happened and what will happen

It is ironic that firms looking to relocate into the EU are looking to Eire, as that is from where the majority of EU immigrants come.

I saw a couple of old women interviewed on tv whom I can only describe as cackling crones in crimplene cardigans sniggering up their sleeve that they voted leave. I wouldn' trust them with my shopping list.

Brian, it is supposedly the objective of a main political party to try and become the government. This fiasco is down to the fact that a Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn is unelectable and the PLP recognise that whilst the far left want their man as Leader.

The two are mutually exclusive.

Got to disagree with this, Jane. That Labour is currently unelectable with Corbyn in charge is merely the opinion of Blair and the pseudo-tories in the party. At grass roots level across the board - not by any means just the far left - a great many people still want a basically socialist party and potential government, and the PLP is not it any longer. The first responsibility of HM Opposition, whatever party, is to oppose the government so that the best outcomes for the country result, following proper debate from opposing viewpoints and policies; their second job is to oppose so well that their policies become more popular than the government's and so they get into power replacing the incumbents in government. Unfortunately the whole process has been distorted, corrupted and damaged over the last few decades with two parties fundamentally in the same position and nothing much to choose between them. Following their last debacle, surely a tory Labour party is unelectable now?

Brilliant - thanks! x

Rhys, fortunately the PM can no longer take the country to war on his/her own.

Whilst we agree that there should be an effective opposition, I do not see Jeremy Corbyn doing that. Everyone agrees that he is a nice bloke but he is not a leader and that is what is needed to inspire the electorate in general to come out and vote.

We have a new Prime Minister. Let's hope that the Leave faction do not carry on making trouble for her.

Your stating your opinion as fact. This is also a failure of the PLP. All elections since his appointment have shown an improvement. So the evidence disproves your opinion. I have to say the plotters are the ones damaging the Labour Party. Red Tories. I listen last night to John McTernan spitting his dummy out. The mans a political thug with no official axe to grind. Why is he there? Whose employing him? Corbyn won an election and should be given time, 10 months is not that. He's a Political leader not a football manager.

fraud?

*facepalm*

so far Jen, I've only read two of your posts, and already I'm searching tin foil manufacturing to see how many are listed on the stock exchange so I can buy shares if you're an example of the typical person today.

EU Fudge?

frankly, I prefer Nougat.
