5 year Titre de Sejour swap for 10 year/permanent Titre de Sejour

That is a dubious status for Fr admin, you need something the admin understands, an official paper trail of some sort.

The process for WARP renewals is not yet known, but you are likely to need the following: Bank statements from previous 3-12 months, copy of your current WARP, proof of health coverage ‘attestation de droits’, proof of residence, proof of income, tax return, copy of passport.

thanks Angela that’s good to know !

Just read this article.

But haven’t found anything more recent.
If it does apply to WARP, just entry onto the territory for a few days would apparently be sufficient.

If you break residency then you have to start from zero again. No one knows what investigations are done for nationality, but they are more in depth than for a carte de séjour so this could be picked up. A lot is via attestations sur l’honneur and your income records.

That is what many immigration specialists say.

Has anyone already been through the process of upgrading their WARP CdS 5 year card to a 10 year card yet?

Does anyone know if there’s an online application website up and running, or does it mean booking a visit to the Prefecture?

My understanding is that there’s not a process in place yet and the prefectures won’t entertain any requests for cards that aren’t close to expiry.

No not yet Susannah, it’s on the Service-Public site for 2 months before expiry.

When is your card due to expire, as it’s likely to be online on the ANEF site, it just needs turning on.

Unless you have exceptional circumstances, most prefectures are turning people away if their card isn’t due for renewal anytime soon.

Plus the online is likely to be very few documents, the prefectures want everything including the kitchen sink

Thank you for answering my call!

Our 5yr WA cards expire 2026 January 6. I’m thinking to give our Prefecture a call this September to see if we should visit in person.

I had bookmarked this ANEF application site

Now just waiting to see if it adds a section for WA cards in the autumn.

Bonne Chance!

Are you on Facebook, if yes, join our group as you need to create an ANEF account, do not whatever you do, log in through FranceConnect first.

If not have a look at the website as the same info is there.

Very courageous, as Sir Humphrey would say :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

why? it saved me €5200 that the Notaire claimed I should be paying. Chat GPT also took me to the exact location (online) for ‘Plus Value’ tax rules for French residents selling UK property (to be taxed in France)

It’s alright using it as a search engine I suppose, but I’m old and a sceptic, I prefer tax advice from real people.

I tried the search engine approach, it is very difficult to find the definitive information. Chat GPT is like having a team of Google assistants and it retains (or generally does) the context to which you search. I actually rang an expert on French tax affairs in Marseille and he was willing to put the CGT tax return through for me and take the hit if the calculation was wrong in the eyes of the Impots. But he would charge a percentage of the Plus Value gain. This would have been over a grand.
To me this suggested that Chat GPT was correct since this firm were willing to risk a loss. I sent him the link to the legalities and he said they were correct. He charged nothing for his advice.
I tried the Notaires approach first. In France they offer a ‘free’ Plus Value service, where they’ll invite you in for a RDV and calculate that day your tax bill. Of course to my shock he calculated €5200.
The issue was that the Notaire was calculating the the Gain by deducting the purchase price in UK at the exchange rate on day of sale from the sale price at exchange rate at the day of sale.
That exchange rate was 1.15€ to the £. The exchange rate at the day of purchase was 1.55€ to the £. This made a huge difference to the gain. And legally the gain must be calculated from the respective exchange rates on those days.
I made a new RDV with the Notaire, and he cancelled, I wrote a long email to the Notaire citing all the facts regarding how to calculate Plus Value in this situation. I got no answer, I tried his secretary and she said he was busy but he’d definately answer my correspondence. I tried to get a phone RDV and he cancelled. He never responded.
But they agreed to put my figures on the form and send me the finished Item and record this with impots, for their €60 fee.
I felt very let down by the ‘experts’, this Notaire didn’t have a clue and was a coward to boot.
Chat GPT saved the day - I submitted the return over a year ago. I use AI quite a lot… But never give it too much personal info.
The other day i asked it what it did with all our ‘conversation’, it replied that they are stored somewhere and that i can chose to delete all of them if i so wished, but i would have to start from scratch when using Chat GPT again. So I deleted all the memory in settings. The next day I asked “what is my address?” and it immediately told me. I asked how it retained this info despite me ‘wiping’ the memory. It said, “that’s clever of you”, you wiped the conversations (Persistant Memory) but I retain (temporary context) session memory. I’m not quite sure that is true because it still retained my address days later on a new session. I then asked it directly to forget all my personal information, which it then duly did.
I find using this technology very rewarding, I can’t see it ‘dumbing down’ people, but i can see it taking jobs off many. Try it

Goodness, that’s a long reply. I’ll read it tomorrow and do it justice :slightly_smiling_face:

I was going to ask “why is it called Titre de Sejour at the top of the card and Carte de sejour halfway down?” but a bit of searching found the following.
(I take it to mean MY ‘titre se sejour’ , is my ‘carte de sejour-under Art 50 TUE’)

You can do your own translating. :grinning:

If I need to spend a year in the uk once I get my 10 year Warp card in January do I declare myself tax resident in the UK too?

Probably but it would depend on the specific circumstances. Will you be working in the UK, will you keep your home in France and return to it regularly, etc. If you are not working in the UK and your family remains in Franc and you return to Fyour home in France regularly the fisc is likely to consider you tax resident even if you are not physically present in France. You really need to discuss this with both tax authorities, I suggest with your tax office in France first and then with HMRC once you know the fisc’s view.
