It was the preference for hot water and tea that has protected Chinese people through decades when others around them were felled by Cholera. Boiled is best!
All taken on board and I have a glass of water to hand at this moment. This after toast and marm at 7am and soups with bread at midday followed by a ripe pear.
This evening it will be fish again, sardines courtesy of the dogs with some potatoes I bought at the market this morning. While there I bought some more fruit, pears, clementines and a couple of kiwis, the latter a first for me.
I certainly benefitted from the walking this morning and I will keep that up as I go to get back to normal fitness.
Good, then you too, will be bright eyed and bushy tailed
Reminds me of when I was on a course of malaria tablets ![]()
If youāre not keen on plain water, try adding a cordial, blackcurrant can be nice in warm/ hot water too.
Yay, David!
Best wishes!!
Update this morning. Woke at 6am to rapidly gaining tingles in the feet spreading to the lower legs. Feet raised on the bolster as reccomended by Mario/Marie-Paule did not immediately help but when I doubled it over to raise the feet more and with the continued heavy breathing I dozed off back to sleep. When I awoke half an hour later, hardly any tingles at all. ![]()
I got up and after the bathroom, 2 glasses of water, one to take my pills, I then commenced my paces round the house making and drinking my first coffee then a bowl of porridge as I went past each time.
More pacing and now another pause to write this before pacing again and then final visit to the bathroom and to get dressed. I am well pleased with this outcome after a disturbing first experience on waking. Fair play to M and M-P. ![]()
Much the same for today as yesterday, but just to be on the safe side I have decided to put off ātill tomorrow a decision about the timing of the dogsā return. ![]()
How are you today David?, I hope youāre much better and just too busy to post anything today.
I think I need to start doing morning welfare texts! I called yesterday as Rachel messaged worried. Ifhes not answered after my nanny nap Iāll text him.
Much better thank you, 3 meals a day and more importantly, looking forward in the evening to the 3rd rather than with the trepidation of only a few days ago. Because of that I am no longer alone in the house, my mate Jules is back here. Sadly Sharon has mis-read and misunderstood the condition of the strong, swift and energetic Hades and persuaded the association that he should remain there for bulking out.
I strongly disagree and have said so, so we will see what happens. A shame that someone who has only observed him for 2 days should jump to judgement over the method of one who has lived alongside him for almost 6 weeks. His ribs were showing and his waist very narrow when I collected him, so that I had a notion he might have Greyhound in his genes. Anyhow, despite being at least 10 kgs lighter than Jules they both have been eating exactly the same amount for all that time as I am convinced that āpetit a petitā is a much more suitable way for him to rebuild his weight.
So, a mixed day of happiness and we will see what the future brings.
Thatās really good to hear and especially on the eating front, so glad youāre feeling so much better and at least have one of your doggies back.
People can be a blind to other opinions, Iām sure youāre right about Hades. Little weight gains are far better than sudden increase, which wouldnāt be good for him at all. When we first rehomed our old lab, she was massively overweight and the vet put her in a strict diet that still looked like a lot but was designed to bring it off gradually. Iām sure your doctor would recommend you put weight on slowly, just as youāre doing for Hades.
Fingers crossed heās back home soon, all this canāt be good for his mental health, but with you heās in safe hands and thanks for the update.
Yes, and if you remember he was there sharing with Jules for 2 days last week and when I picked them up it took ages to get a lead on him because he was so excited. Now I am thinking about him all alone in that large cage without any companions.
Thatās very sad, any chance you can enlist help to get him home sooner?
Iām so glad youāre feeling better and that youāve got your best friend with you. Hades is better off with you and Jules Iām sure so get him back a soon as you can David. Please continue to give daily updates, even if itās just to say āIām still aliveā cos Iām a bit of a worrier and need to know youāre OK.

Tory, I thought these were for the over 60ās so you donāt qualify for one yet!
Whether Hades comes back here or not depends on the presidente of the association and I wrote to her at length complaining and explaining of the high handed action. Although I have adopted him they can in their T & Cs demand his return within a certain period if there is a very good reason.
As for myself, I am much nearer to normal again but will soon start internal perambulations but in any case will be out twice today in field and forest with Jules. Have to go to the vets to get more pills for him too, she didnāt give back the ones I supplied with him.
Just about to go out for a bit of shopping and for Julesā pills. Thought I would explain why I have lovely warm feet. My walking boots are waterproof and stay dry inside but have a suede type covering on the outside. This rapidly gets wet and stays damp for quite some time making the insides feel cold. So I have got into the habit of leaving my electric hair dryer in them one by one for just a couple of minutes each. Result: Lovely warm feet, but a word of warning, if the instrument is pushed right down or left too long, it can overheat and either stopā¦or set the boots on fire. ![]()
Nice to have the big furball home with me again but, apart from the obvious concerns for Hades in his cold outside cage, there is a definite drawback in not having him here.
Jules and I have just been on our morning walk in field and forest as the sun was burning off the frost. I was well wrapped up with my Wigan Rugby League Club scarf for protecting my throat and a heavy, sheepskin lined leather jacket keeping me warmish but I could have been warmer if the old man with me had moved a bit quicker. Stopping frequently to snuffle in the leaves like a sanglier (but he totally ignored and passed over quickly the fresh overnight destruction they left) I was often left standing and waiting. He even doubled back halfway down and we had to go right round the top again. As I had decided to let him have his head I was bound to follow but I knew that he would not have been so dilatory had Hades been with us. He has been known to break into a run if he sees H and me about to make a rdv up ahead, or the young one stop and put his nose to ground as if finding something interesting.
I know that Sharon has from time to time brought manageable dogs into her house from time to time but they canāt all fit in there and Hades is very slim with a very thin skin, just like a Levrier of course, and I hate to think of him shivering instead being in the warm with us here.

I do hope he can join you both soon.
