Alcohol free wine

I quite like a cobra or kingfisher with curry, but would also be happy with water.

That’s what Lassi is for. It has the opposite effect and is delicious.

I’ve enjoyed lassi in India, but it’s not common in Europe, even in restos.

They had some today in Carrefour although it was expensive. We buy cans of mango pulp and make our own. Where we used to live in Yorkshire, all the Indian restaurants did it.

I’ve found it’s usually available in restaurants in Germany and France. Even if it’s not on the menu you can ask for it.

They sell Alcohol-Free Cheddar in Tesco. I think they call it ā€˜Cheddar’ . . . . .

I take Rennies for that . . . .

In Germany they sell a cheese that claims on the packet to be gluten-free.

In Holland I believe they make cheese free cheese.

Well, many folk used to drink wine with meals and developed a liking for the taste. Now perhaps they can’t or don’t want to drink alcohol but would like to enjoy that same taste. My wife likes the taste of gin and tonic but sometimes drinks AF g+t rather than orange juice or whatever.

I had a Guiness zero the other day, best AF beer I have had and would have trouble distinguishing fromthe regular.

Think the AF beer issue is well sorted, but am disappointed not to have had more recommendations about AF wine apart from Tory’s AF fizz.

I’ve been doing some investigating and truly cannot find anyone/anywhere talking about a decent Red wine which is alcohol free…

Reports are that it simply does NOT taste like Red wine !

I thought they made it from holes

No thats the low calorie one

Our local Intermarche has an Expert Club dealcoholised red wine. Has anyone tried it or do I give it a go in the interests of research ?

Off you go Angela, in the interest of research.

Will do! I’m wondering where @toryroo finds her acceptable alcohol-free fizz as the ones in Intermarche all have descriptions that say things like ā€œpeach-flavouredā€ and I’m not at all sure about those.

Since I am definitely drinking too much at the moment, perhaps I should go round all the cavistes and supermarkets in the area in turn in order to try out their offerings?

Purely altruistically of course…

Yes, but don’t you just like the way it bounces when you accidentally drop it.

Reporting back on 2 de-alcoholised wines I’ve tried this week! At the moment, having no recent experience of such things, I can’t really compare with others yet.

The first was a fiiz I bought from Lidl before Christmas - this was the only pic I could find of it although I’ve never heard of that supplier so can’t comment there. I thought it was ok but not that pleasant to drink, feeling a bit chemical. My partner quite liked it.

The second was the expert club red from IntermarchĆ©. It was a lot better than I expected (my expectations were rock bottom) although obviously not as good as ā€˜real’ wine. I could actually drink this one but whether any of the rest of you could, I’m not at all sure.
