Am I the only person who thinks that some French Estate Agents do a poor job? 2014 - 2019

Cheers Peter,
I found time to navigate Anita's site, which was easy, and she seems to possibly work in our area, as the distances she quotes from Poitiers airport coincide with ours, and we aren't in the opposite direction from St Junien! Not ready yet but have stored her details :-)

Hi David, no problem. Her name is Anita de Bresser and her phone numbers are on the left side of the attached page. Charming lady. Say hi from me in St Junien.

The Irish guy is Karl Sherry, details below. Nice man.

Rachael, we've bought and sold 9 times here, and still have lots to learn as the market keeps changing, but there is one agent locally that still stands out for us, and over the years we've gradually realised that it's because he's a 1/2 and 1/2 ! ie he's part local French, part English. obviously seemless in the two, and so moves easily within the french market and the english-spoken foreign market. That way he's kept genuinely informed and on his toes, properly takes on the nuances of his clients, and his informed judgements/valuations, etc can be taken as not plucked out of the ether by some certain afore-mentioned 'anglo-saxon' agents and lazy french agencies. The pics and attitudes flagged up here (and we can twice come up with worse than the lady hair and shower washer!) beggar belief, a total contrast to how we knacker ourselves when prepping for a viewing (exhausted thinking about it!) this end, for no more reddies, but tend to sell quicker.

As to finding it hard to follow the jumping of various threads on here, it does become a bit of a chore depending on which topics....I for one would love the format to switch, to pages that simply go from fist contributor in order of addition....simples ;-)

Peter, we'd be very interested to know the details of the Dutch lady in the Vienne area you consider good as, like the majority of the thread, we also despair at the quality of a lot of agents. If it's the Irish agent i think it is, he impressed us, too!

Mark

Its not that clear in the article if you have more than one agent ? or rely on the one you are unhappy with.

Most vendors have numerous agents trying to sell their property - local offices / national chains / international specialists as well as online sites.

Steve

Hi Barbara ,

I work with Leggett in the Lot et Garonne and have seen your message about contacting one of our agents .

Can you get in touch an let me know exactly where the property is / what it is and who you contacted.

Thanks

Interesting topic - one that is certain to stir up some reactions from all sides of the fence.

Prior to working with Leggett I worked with a local agent and a good one at that - the way they work is a bit different despite appearing to be the same.

Clearly there are a few people here connected with the property market who have some very good insight and advice , I am happy to help anybody in my patch to understand the best way forward to sell their property which may be agency or perhaps its better suited to the French local market.

Steve

I agree Barabara Deane. This is a difficult thread to follow!

Because the messages are all over the place I can not be sure of who is saying what.

And to who.

I agree with your summation completely! Our experience h

*skulks off with melted dribbly Jubbly, mumbling "sorry Sah", jabbing at buttons to find said pages*

Gordon Bennett Ian, you're on pages 4 & 5.

Pay attention ffs !

I don't think I can say that they do a poor job, Mark. It is just a question of luck I think. The French one we use is absolutely fabulous and probably the most professional estate agent I have ever used. A couple of times I have used Anglo Saxon agents that work for French Estate Agents and they were pretty good too. All in all I have had a very good experience, but probably that is just luck.

Oy, where's my Bury chipper gone! Been taken over by a kebab franchise I bet.

Gordon Bennett Barbara, your Russian princess is halfway down page 2 - well it is on my machine anyway !

Sort yourself out woman !

I can find the beginning and possibly the end but the middle is somewhere

and my silk purse and Russian princess have been kidnaped.

Sounds like you were really lucky with your agent. Just goes to show there are good ones about. It's a pity she wasn't closer to me on this side of the 87.

Quite right Liz and a big problem about selling a property on can be the quality of work carried out. I've seen some terrible renovation jobs, real amateur looking stuff which usually means the new owners having to rip it out and start again.

Well said Liz, we moved here for quality of life and cost of living both better than UK, not to make money on buying and selling if we wanted that should have bought in London

It seems to me that all too often house prices are “too high” when buying and “too low” when selling. It seems that all too often we buy and old ruin, spend alot doing it up and expect our home to sell easily, when by and large our french neighbours idea of a des res is amodern pavillion. Our estate agent when we bought was about the same as the UK agent was when we sold up there. When we come to move here we will go down the leboncoin and notaire route first off, as that is what our french neighbours have done, and we don’t expect to make a profit on our home…and I expect we will do as the french do and take our favourite fixtures and fittings with us…unless constrained by the compromis!

Hi we must either be very lucky or signed a pact with the estate agent devil, because our estate agent is the best, ever since buying they have helped,
1 they organised the phone line connection for us the first week
2 they organised an electrician to re wire the house3 months later for 15000 euro cheaper
3 they then got me a deal at edf and also arranged for us to go on night tarrif
4 they insure my motor bike, car and house cheaper than the UK ones, even though the house is 4 times the size of our old cottage in Wales,
5 they have also helped many of our friends with their sales and purchases this last two years
6 there in house money person got us 10000euro more than our bank offered for the transfer of funds to pay for the home

Ask for Laurence Arguel at Fralimo, in eymoutiers if your buying in the limousin highly recommend her, and speaks better English than most
