Another fine mess…

Well obviously reading art history and theatre studies at Warwick makes you a shoo-in for a sensitive job at the FO.

Chief of Staff no less, and a six figure salary.

“ The chair of the House of Commons standards committee, Chris Bryant, called on Tuesday for the “paper trail” surrounding the issue to be published. “It is manifestly corrupt to appoint your lover as a Spad,” he said in a tweet.

At the time, Johnson was still married to his second wife, Marina Wheeler.”

Two articles that sum up the mess succinctly. Johnson can’t cope with any of this and nor can the dross around the cabinet table. Time for get the popcorn, kick back and watch the show.

Uganda specialist I think the Eye might say.

She’s well matched with Johnson who is very familiar with Ugandan discussions. As was only appropriate for the Fornication Secretary.

the mess gets worse - when (if ever) will these idiots realise that the EHCR is bugger all to do with Europe

Raab said the proposals ‘reflect the government’s enduring commitment to liberty under the rule of law’.

Oh purlease… pass me the vomit bowl :face_vomiting:

The shit is snowballing…….

The ECHR is supranational precisely because people need protecting from their own governments.

I have no doubt the Tories know this but they wish to extricate themselves from any possible scrutiny or oversight and want to be in control of which humans get which rights without anyone being able to tell them otherwise.

The anti-European stuff is just fluff so the idiot population don’t notice the noose tightening until it is too late.

Yep. Just as brexit was not really about Europe, but freeing cowboy capitalists from the constraints of social and environmental responsibility, so this so-called ‘bill of rights’ uses a similar ‘sovereignty’ disguise to reduce the accountability of government, the rich and powerful.

Also, it occurs to me that if we had a UK court of Human Rights and it was upholding the rights of, say, asylum seekers - it would be under attack from our government in just the same way that “lefty lawyers” are at present.

For the avoidance of doubt a “lefty lawyer” is someone who is upholding the rights of individuals as per UK law, the laws having been written by Parliament - of which much fuss about sovereignty was made by Brexiteers.

I’m watching Raab live n the Commons debate, he’s fully on top of his brief (and why wouldn’t he be, given his background) and the opposition can’t land a glove on him. All the ERG types rallying around him and nothing worthwhile from the opposite side :frowning:

Perhaps because they’ve not even bothered to turn up :frowning:

Yes. It’s pathetic. The woman in red up at the back on the opposition (don’t know her name) actually put a good question to him but that was about it. The DUP’s contribution was would Jesus and the right to preach be protected

Talking of pathetic, Jacob Rees Mogg is up now :man_facepalming:

Jackanory time :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

He’s simply unbearable.

I disagree with the result of the referendum but I would like to hear a pro-Brexit politician provide details of genuine benefits to the UK of being outside the EU. I’d have hoped that Rees Mogg, as Brexit Opportunities Minister, would be able to do that. Alas he is so excrutiating to listen to that I learn nothing from him… except the odd archaic word to add to my vocabulary.

Thinking about this some more, I’ve realised this is why I find the RMT Union guy (Mick Lynch?) so refreshing… he just says things like they are. No avoiding questions, no ambiguity, no poncy language… he gets straight to the point.

absolutely… he called a Transport Minister in a live interview on TV a liar a dozen times at least - the minister didn’t Flynch (sic) an inch nor deny that he was lying… Surely if he was a truthful politician, he would have called Mick Lynch out but he didn’t which can only mean he was lying

I was amazed to overhear Starmer today echo Johnson’s words about the new Windrush statue, but fail to mention that 4 YEARS after the government promised to compensate victims of the scandal, three-quarters of them had still received nothing.
