Well we get a huge Bonsoir back, so we must be doing something right.

I reckon that customs will and do vary across the country.
Around us, we’ve a very friendly lot and the hello/goodbye/kiss-kiss can take a while… but no-one seems to mind and it’s actually rather nice.

I’m not suggesting they would ignore a bonsoirée. Merely that it is not common , in my experience, to initiate an all-inclusive farewell.
But you don’t live in the Hauts de Trivy.

It sounds delightful where you live. 
France is a big country and places can (and often do) vary enormously one to another… and it’s not just the countryside, but the people and their habits/customs

It is delightful and we have wonderful neighbours.
It is so beautiful and we are taking advantage of this Indian summer, barbecue out and steak for lunch.

I don’t like Lundis in France…..
Is that a merger between Londis, Aldi and Lidl? 
In days of yore, when we were visiting France… my OH always took me into the towns on a Monday/Lundi morning as he knew most of the shops would be shut 
I would thoroughly enjoy window shopping without denting our bank balance.
A former employer of mine took the whole company on a two-day “jolly” on the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark.
The day we arrived was a Danish public holiday. 
We admired all the closed shops and cafés, got back on the boat and came home again.

Something similar happened to me when staying with a friend in Toronto. “Let’s go to Buffalo for the day” she suggested. “It’d be really cool, and I’ve never been there.” Naively, I replied, “OK.”
So, we spent three hours on a Saturday morning on a bus being driven round the perimeter of Lake Ontario, arrived in Buffalo via Niagara (only next time looked at the Fall). Everything in the CBD was closed, so we went down to the lakeshore to see if we could see Toronto. Couldn’t, so got the next bus back.
Have had more interesting days.
