Just a quick note about hay fever, it is provoked by pollen, if one puts a greasy cream around one’s nostrils, pollen does not go in and no sneezing!
A relative of mine did accidentally overdose because she didn’t realise a friend had got 400 mg tablets for her
Point taken - what a dangerous dose!
I just can’t believe that purely for profit it is made out that nurafen / advil liquid is on the same safety level as calpol / doliprane liquid for kids - scary. I do keep a bottle but can’t remember the last time I used it (probably last teething episode), I only use it if I can’t get a high temp down with paracetamol alone. Before I did my nurse / MW training I had no idea and used them interchangeably as I think most parents do, my poor first 2 kids!
Time to dig out this thread again as the dreaded nose and throat tingles have begun.
At this time of year it has to be the tree pollen. I just suffer from grass pollen quite badly at times. I use a nasal spray beconaise as I don’t like taking tablets. Not available in France unfortunately. I like the idea of greasing my nose simple solutions are often the best
Must the tree pollen as it’s that or freshly cut grass and it’s been a week since I did that.
Tree pollen is the most likely culprit, my nose is at the itchy, might sneeze stage too.
Unfortunately at the moment they’re out of stock!
Must be popular
I don’t suffer from hay fever but I have noticed lots of seeds and pollen stuff on the steps upto the front door this week from the tilleul trees behind the house that have those little balls on them, gold in colour. My son in law suffers dreadfully so no flowers in their house as he calls them agents of death.
There seems to be an episode of high ozone in a lot of France at the moment, particularly in a wide strip up the west of the country, but in other places as well. That can cause similar symptoms to hay fever with itchy nose sore eyes and throat. That could be a contributing factor.
Are you sure they are tilleul? They are far from flowering at the mo, barely in leaf-bud - but the mimosa is berserk. We’ve also got Saharan dust apparently.
Here’s a pic chez moi, the branches in the foreground are tilleul and in the middle distance distance you can see the mimosa.
Ours as well. It’s a massive blob of bright yellow. And about 7 m tall.
We’ve got the usual pale yellow pollen that looks like powder paint. I think it’s from birch trees and it travels.
Are you sure? Very early - ours haven’t even started to come into bud.
Locally, our hazelnut trees are all in fine form, with yellowish catkins all over 'em… and the pollen is simply blowing on the breeze.. and up everyone’s noses ![]()
Silver Birch will be much later…
