Apéritifs for the ladies

Similar in Saumur, where they mix Combier and crémant.

Hi Shiba, do you know why the Peach Schnapps can’t be sold in France?

I can’t remember the actual explaination, think its something todo with the manufacturer (Is it Bols?) and licencing etc. I like it and have looked everywhere but its available down the road over the frontier so next shopping trip down there. I googled, maybe you can look it up and see what it actually said. Advocaat is banned because of the egg content not complying with french food rules.

It’s available!

Since the thread has wandered a little - pastis and ouzo/tsiporou drinker here. I’m happy with most of the pastis variants TBH. I find the flavours in different ouzos more distinctive than pastis variants.

The only one of those aniseedy things I like is arak, and I’m not sure how well it travels :slightly_smiling_face:
Eierlikör (Advocaat is just a brand isn’t it?) is very popular in Germany poured over ice cream. Good in trifles too. I suppose it’s pretty much just zabaglione (my favourite pudding) in a bottle.

I was (probably still am) the only member of my family who liked Christmas pudding so my mother would serve my little individual pudding with a miniature of advocaat that had been warmed in a bain-marie - much less hassle, one less pan to wash - worked well.

Christmas pudding exists as a vehicle for brandy butter in my book, ratio of 1 small teaspoon of Christmas pudding to a tablespoon of BB.

I love Avocaat, especially with something else.

Eggnog White Russian with Avocaat, Kahlúa and vodka. Boozy, creamy and deliciously coffee-y!

Makes me a little nostalgic for days of yore, when we enjoyed crowded New Year’s cocktail parties offering White Russians and Black Velvet. Cocktails, not people.

Although, in the tropics after sunset anything like inhibition fades!

Regarding Christmas Pudding, we make a vodka Christmas Pudding drink, very delicious. On the same principle as sloe gin. To the vodka add the pudding dry fruit mix, turn each day then leave for 3 months, surprisingly lovely.

To borrow from your user name: ‘No way’!

Yes way. Just bottled this years batch. And an eau de vie version especially for my french neighbours
