As someone who also has frailties, and is hyper careful to avoid infections, I can definitely empathise with your alarm.

Horrible things, ticks - we have loads of them in the garden and I often end up with one. Surprising how tiny they can be, too - all the pictures/videos have them at a noticeable size…

Sounds like our pharmacy ! They do all sorts of things as we are also rural.
Keep letting us know what happens. Hopefully the big starter dose has knocked it on the head enough for strict following of later doses to work.

Had 3 or 4 ticks on my legs recently. Pulled them off with tweezers. Wouldn’t dream of seeing GP’ortaking antiobicics unless feeling unwell!

Please twist them off rather than pull, you don’t want to leave a bit of their mouth behind which can get infected.
Highly recommend a modest outlay of a few euros on O’Toms tick twisters at your local pharmacy.

My GP’s in France have always given me a prescription for a blood test after being bitten by ticks.

Presumably you did not have a septic reaction and a swollen leg.
Thanks, it is definitely improving.
My leg is not swollen now and the red area is smaller and less livid.
The antibiotics make me tired though.

Almost certainly, if you have light-ish skin. They’re very black. I tend to find them by feel - something feels odd on my kleg and I run my hand over it. That sort of thing.

I received the best and worst treatment yesterday.
I’m currently on holiday here in 17 and have a tooth abscess which has caused my face to swell badly along with severe dental pain. It got so bad early yesterday morning that my wife drove me to the local urgences who basically refused to help and told me to call SAMU and all the dentists in the town.
Naturally none of the dentists had any emergency appointments so we called SAMU and after a very long wait they arranged for an urgences a bit further away to deal with me straight away. I would say that from the time of arrival to leaving with prescriptions having seen a doctor was no more than 30 minutes. I told the doctor of my experience earlier and he said under no circumstances go to that urgences again as they have the worst reputation in the dept.
Thankfully, the antibiotics have kicked in and I should feel better in a few days.
