BBC Sounds - outside UK

Yep. Infringement of a trademark, IIRC, was the “best” offence to use, in terms of penalty.

You can already access the new site via a link from BBC sounds. I did so whereupon I discovered to my horror that you can only listen to live radio…no access whatsoever to anything else. No warning, no explanation, nothing. Quite how this offers an ‘enhanced’ experience to anyone is a mystery.

Great idea…you’ve just gained a signature. Thanks for your efforts.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid BBC.

Like many others on here I would happily pay the BBC to have continued access to its radio content. Instead, like many others on here, I will now be giving my money to a VPN to cheat the BBC into thinking I’m in the UK.

The BBC has a wholly owned subsidiary called BBC Studios whose job is to licence content for use overseas; it’s about time the bozos over there figured out a way to monetise the (rapidly evaporating) support they have for BBC radio among expats and others around the world. And if Two-Tier and his dosy crew started thinking a little more about British soft power they might want to have a word to encourage the BBC in this direction.

Then again the cuts to the British Council funding don’t bode so well on that front.

You are correct Marty2 but the BBC only hss rights to let its own content be viewed around the world.

It seems the BBC now produces much less of its own content thsn before. So it’s buying in content from other producers who naturally will place limits on what the BBC can do with thst content and in which geography.

Yes indeed, though my gripe was specifically about radio which will still be available live in some cases but not on replay. Go figure…

Just be grateful that you’re now a long way from Borsetshire, or whatever I remember it being called.

Meanwhile, never mind The Archers, they cutting back massively on the British Council’s work, a move that I think is far more culturally and strategically short sighted. Sort of thing one might expect from Trump, or Thatcher (remember her?) but not from a Labour gov.

Just a thought. The BBC has always had an anti European streak. When they showed Engrenages that was the first time in two decades that they had aired French content on BBC TV. No problem with American stuff however. I suspect that there is, within the Beeb, an influential group of Brexiteers and Little Englanders.

Only if you ignore the foreign drama slot on pretty much every Saturday night on BBC 4. It might have been the first French series in a while but there’s been plenty of other European content. I suspect that it’s a pretty niche category hence why BBC 4.

And usually very good too, including the latest Welsh mystery which has just concluded. Was only a little disapointed that it wasn’t in Welsh with Welsh subs.

Ann, not Anne, actually.

Hi. I note that the Proton VPN is built in now within the Vivaldi Browser
Vivaldi now has a built-in VPN powered by Proton

Hi All

so, ive returned to France and found that there is no work around for IPlayer, even if using a VPN. ill assume bbc sounds is the same.
I have a smart tv too, and that also iplayer and another application to watch live BBC.
iplayer doesnt work, but the app does work on the TV.

I spoke to a friend in the UK who specialises in IP and TV, and he said there is no work around at all now. the algorithm on IPlayer reports back all VPN connections that are then blocked…I had it working for 3 mins, then it wont.

offer the above just for information.

Odd, we!re still using our VPN without problems.

Rob,
What’s the app for watching live BBC?

Ditto here: NordVPN and iPlayer and Sounds, no problem.

Im Using Nord too…are you watching on a laptop ? that will work for a little while longer, but not through a central VPN ( on router - if using app on tv) or local on TV…

Its called Freely; came with the tv…that app still works through the NORD VPN. I player and bbc sounds no longer work via MY Nord; even after changing uk server;VPN IP addresses are getting blocked on a daily basis.

also, just for info - it still works by using Apple TV app…its just the app on the tv itself currently…they will come for the rest in time ( according to my friend)

OK, thanks
