Tories pledge to get 'all our oil and gas out of the North Sea'
The government warns Kemi Badenoch's plans would "only accelerate the worsening climate crisis".
English flags being nailed to the lamposts?
Only if she is going to live there. That’s inherent in the definition of “main residence”, surely?
Hear, hear. Hence my statement Starmer and his little gang have no vision, no plan and no courage. The only thing on Starmer’s mind is Reform. The only thing on Cameron’s mind was the Tory hard right, etc, ect, All the parties are only interested in fighting the other parties and/or their own internal battles. The state of of and future of the Country is really only a side show.
No I don’t think that’s necessarily the case - you can own a home and still live elsewhere for work purposes some or most or even all of the time - it’s still going to be your primary residence for the purposes of Stamp Duty when you purchased it.
I’m sure that applies to MPs who can’t really commute from far-flung constituencies everyday. And also anyone who works overseas for long periods, on oil rigs, on cruise ships, etc. - they would all be allowed to buy a home as their primary Uk residence without being expected to pay the “second home” Stamp Duty surcharge.
I think there’s a lot of confusion going on here. For stamp duty, main residence only comes into play if you own more than house, which she doesn’t. Nothing to declare
For council tax, main residence comes into play as you pay a surcharge on any further residences. You don’t need to own a house for that house to be one of your residences. She’s declared appropriately that, for council tax purposes, the Hove flat is not her main residence and is paying the surcharge as required.
It’s not complicated and there’s nothing to see here.
No not here but in the press and other social media the BS roles on. Seems she is going to be investigated by the ethics committee but that will as we have discussed come to nothing but clearly strings are be pulled withing Whitehall to stir the pot.
So, by that logic, if you’re a complete and utter barsteward, then you would think it’s OK to continue being so .
Of course. Your conscience would be shown by your actions.
Show me a politician with one of those
I’m always impressed by Tim Farron’s graciousness and generosity. Of course, he represents part of God’s own country
Of course, he represents part of God’s own country
‘country’, ‘county’ or ‘former county’?
Northerners!
Westmorland is the jewel and Cumberland its setting.
I’m always impressed by Tim Farron’s graciousness and generosity.
Utterly useless as a party leader though.
Yep, far too much integrity.
Clive Lewis seems to be trying hard to do the right thing.
My Dad’s family came from theLancashire/Westmorland border.
In my youth I used to go to Storrs Hall on Windermere on Sundays and out on the lake or swimming.
Clive Lewis seems to be trying hard
He’s always been both an impressive politician, and an impressive human being
Don’t you think the “ future of the country” means ensuring Reform don’t get into power.
I can fully understand why other parties are spending time on fighting Reform , given the nightmare that would ensue should Reform ever get into power.
why other parties are spending time on fighting Reform
Or adopting a policy of “if you can’t beat them, join them”.
Kemi Badenoch has just announced that if the Tories get back in they will abandon all the UK’s Net Zero commitments and programmes, and allow unlimited gas and oil extraction in the North Sea until it’s all been removed.
The government warns Kemi Badenoch's plans would "only accelerate the worsening climate crisis".
What the UK will do then for its energy needs of course is not mentioned.
Someone needs to explain the meaning of the word “sustainable” to the daft cow.
Being selfish but I’m glad he was a useless leader because he’s a brilliant MP. He’s just spent some of the summer visiting various constituency’s , especially smaller towns no one bothers about, listening to people’s concerns/moans. Emails are always answered quickly, sometimes it’ll be by a member of his staff but if they think it needs his personal attention he’ll take time to discuss the problem, a huge change from the useless b’ that he replaced. A few more like him in parliament and Britain would be a much fairer place!
