Best SEO strategy for small website

Ditte, you would appear to be on the right road.

But, don't forget that:

* keywords should be spread through the text - on every page - as naturally as possible and not just in the meta tags

* keywords in the domain name are best of all (eg frenchlessonsLandes.pro)

* Gandi are good people but a flash-based site tends to get ignored by search engines. The Gandi people may have a way round this though... if not, upload a free Wordpress template into your Gandi-hosting area and stick in a (free) SEO widget.

* I wouldn't use the same keywords as my main competitors: try and be a bit different; maybe introduce a more localized element (like Landes or Capbreton) until you get well-known nationally or globally.

* if the site is good enough (ie RELEVANT to the SEARCH QUERY) it will come up even if its a .xyz. My sites in .eu come up number one in France and UK.

* You must be ready to tamper with your site EVERY DAY if need be. Google and the other engines just LOVE sites that change content every day. This could just be a word or two - even punctuation!

* above all it is content that is king: if your site is clear, helpful, informative and full of well-written content it will get on to the first page. If it is chaotic, hard to read, full of 'under construction' signs or just plain boring it will get nowhere.

It takes time (up to 3 months) but by persevering you will get there.

You can do it!

Hi Ron,

would you mind sending it to me too, please?

Many thanks

Wendy

hahahaha

ipad?

Thanks Ron -and you are absolutely right ... I should really start using my camera more! (But then I would have to get away from the computer ... right. :) )

der... Dear Ditte

I have requested your friendship on SFN, if you accept, I will send you by way of Personal Message the Ronnie Birks 'idiot's guide' to global domination, via the internet.

trust me, I'm a designer

Hi Ditte,

I always carry a camera with me, tailored pics are so much more pertinent, the copyright remains yours, you can name them appropriately, tag them, and even encourage folk to 'copy them'

If the tags remain in place, others do the work for you. This is just one thing I have found that works for me, do please check out other comments from specialists on here who really do know their stuff.

Good luck, the company looks great!

Ron

Ron - I don't understand these posts. Haha.

I mean -yes - I have already found quite a lot of good info in this group and will begin to implement it on my site ... but what does this mean:

"You might be surprised at how much visibility can be enjoyed, even by an innocuous post such as this, if you conduct the Q and As succinctly."?

Hey Ron - thanks!

Problem is that a lot of those Facebook pictures are copyrighted - and I do not want to use 'illegal' pictures on our business site (and yes you're right - it is a bit doubble standard that I use them on Facebook ... ) But some can for sure be used.

@ Ditte

… eg Google: Ditte SFN

From memory Ditte, probably most things you need to know have been detailed in this group, despite the goal posts shifting. You might be surprised at how much visibility can be enjoyed, even by an innocuous post such as this, if you conduct the Q and As succinctly.

Hi Ditte, you have some charming pics on the FaceBook page, I would consider re-naming some of those and introducing them to ‘static’ section of your website.

Sheila - I will!

Since we have not done anything to optimize / advertise it and our site does not show up anywhere right now (maybe on page 756) it will be somewhat easy to see any changes.

I have already gotten some more ideas from the other posts (renaming of pictures for instance) and will begin my work right now!

Hi Ditte. What a good topic. Please post any hints or tips that you come across. Effective site optimisation is a struggle for many (including me!).

I just now see that there is quite some discussions on this subject. I will read through them now, to see if there is good hints and tricks there too.
