Yes, unfortunately that was the case with the architect, but don’t slam my actions too much. Living in Franc e is a learning curve, I had builders booked in, who were told not to begin work before I arrived but did, they built part of the wall in wrong place and I called the architect over we went through plan and it was measured and adjusted, she does not normally make mistakes. However, this was in depth of covid and it was not possible to call out a geometrie although she did have a conservation on the phone with one. Sometimes you do the best you can in a bad situation.
I was advised to refer owner of company by several people two of which in high authority, as it was taking a long time.
With the greatest of respect to you, given almost all the commenters here have had some difficulty understanding the facts you really should rethink that statement. Sometimes what we think is clear ourselves is less so when it’s on paper, or in this case, screen. Good luck nonetheless, i hope it works itself out in a satisfactory way.
Yes, im having difficulty understanding too? which parts are unclear?
I think @JohnBoy (as others) was more specifically looking for a photo of the damage occasioned - nothing more. As pointed out by @Flocreen -
Every member on SF posts in earnest. You will do well to remember that.
The author of a topic on SF doesn’t “own” it. SF is a discussion forum and as such, topics naturally drift and each member has an equal right to post unrelated content except in circumstances - rarely approved by the the owners - where the stayontopic optional tag is presented.
If someone reaches out to the community, they will post responses with the very best of intentions.
I have had some very flippant comments too verging on rude, which I have refrained from responding too.
Hi, all the facts are very clearly outlined in my first post, im trying to understand there difficulty, which part is unclear.
Unless those comments are ad hominem such is the nature of a discussion forum.
There are specific rules about posting ad hominem content and whilst most are immediately called out by the community, you have the facility to flag such comments yourself for action by the Team.
You can do this by clicking on the icon and the flag icon thereafter.
I didn’t know that as im new, personally I refrain from rudeness, but do not enjoy being in receipt of it or spoken to disrespectfully or with a condescending manner.
As Graham says there are strict rules about any personal attacks on SF, from which any member will be protected as much as possible - but “robust views” are allowed and you might be called upon to defend your opinions. Yes this leads to grey areas but most longstanding members welcome the fact that they can speak their minds.
To be fair I found it a bit difficult initially to see “where you were coming from” or work out what he exact sequence of events had been. I now suspect that the lorry owner was not being difficult, but merely being French (the two can be synonymous, of course) and expected you to be able to give him your insurance details. Inadvertently not following the script has made things more complex for you than I think they needed to be.
We all do it of course, especially those of us who spend time in France but do not live there - it can be difficult to pick up all the nuances of French culture when you *are* there full time.
In particular, France does not work by email in the same way as the UK does - I think you were lucky on that score this time - personal visits, phone and post (preferably signed and tracked) is much more reliable.
Anyway, do let us know how things pan out - despite rough edges I don’t see anything other than concern for your well-being - and the preservation of your love for France in the thread.
Bon courage (et bonne chance).
@Suzan and that post by @billybutcher to be clear is from the “horses mouth” so to speak as he is a moderator. Note the badge by the side of his username.
Thank you, that is a really nice message and cheers me up no end, I have at times felt under attack on here, but im not one to be pushed around.
Yes, I think I misjudged the lorry owner but it was a mixture of misjudgement and frustration in the hours of having to chase back and forth, with emails, calls in what was the result of an act of carelessness on the drivers behalf. I feel the municipal police must have taken exception to my request for details of registration plate and contact details for Prosecution and instead referred me. The timing of this really does seem to suggest. Now I just have to wait.
interestingly, the insurance company also do specify the wrong date for the incident on their email?
They don’t give those out unless the other party agrees, after the dépôt de plainte the gendarmes or the procureur will contact everyone who needs to be contacted. Our system isn’t the same as in Britain.
Personally I found the insinuations of crooked justice, double standards, partiality and corruption in France rather offensive, we aren’t a banana republic you know!
I am aware of that and have not suggested crooked justice, I do not consider that to be the case anyway, but something has stirred them to refer me to prosecutor the day after I reported incident and asked for insurance details. I think it is more they are crossing ts and dotting I’s,
What does this mean?
are you asking what listed previously means?
That is exactly what you have suggested several times. What is likely is that your wall (if in fact not conforme) was under the radar and now it is in the spotlight, so people are actually seeing it.
It was the totality of your answer to me and I found it somewhat cryptic, to say the least.
No I have not, ive said they have taken exception to it in light of incident a different thing all together. It will go before a court if non compliant so I am aware the police would not or could not present “crooked justice”
