Cynical me thinks I’ll be replying to the same email chasing them in a month or so (assuming I still have internet lol).

Actually, you need to step back from this now.
Those cables are not your affair and you have done the correct thing in notifying those who need to know.. of their condition.

Fingers crossed your internet will survive. If it doesn’t then you contact B and the Maire (for an update).. until then… zen zzzzzzzz

Are you still paying Bouygues while all this is going on? I would not, not if you’re not getting the internet service you paid for.

Bouygues’s oroblems with others should not be your business. If ir’s true that they don’t have to fix whatever platform they rest on to provide your service, then it must also be true that if for whatever reason you are not receiving what you paid Bouygues for then you should be entitled not to pay Bouygues.

I cannot see how anything else can be legal, or fair.

If they are still getting internet service why should they not pay for it? If it cuts out from being on the ground of course you shouldn’t pay

Let’s be clear… service is continuing.. it is the state of the lines along poles or almost on the ground… which give cause for concern but not cause for refusing payment. Even if internet does get cut, non-payment is not the route to take.. one can easily find oneself on the wrong side of the law if one gets overheated :wink:

Go and fiddle with the cables, attach them to a support of your choice, the way you want.

Then tell us how that works out, it might be completely hunky dory. Or not.

In our neck of the woods it is not unusual to see broken wooden poles hanging from the cables along the roadside for months. I can think of three such examples in our locality at present. Looks unsightly, but as they still work there is no rush. The hedge cutter chappie skillfully cuts around the cables so as not to break them.
Eventually, perhaps four to six months later, the big pole planting truck turns up and replaces the damaged and dodgy poles.
Just part of the charm of rural France.
No rush. Il n’y a pas de feu.

I’ve seen cables laying along the ground for weeks or months. It amazes me that they’re not severed by one of the tractors cutting the edges on the road. On occasion someone has propped up the cables with a long piece of bamboo. :slight_smile:
I remember when the poles for fibre were installed, and they did a terrible job - most were impeded by trees, or put in at strange angles. Every day I pass countless poles that are at precarious angles. It’s only a matter of time before one of them falls onto a passing vehicle.

I concur… there are poles/cables at all sorts of odd angles etc etc. The local Mairie should be aware of what is happening along its roads and they will be contacting the organisation responsible (with or without any good outcome).
In some instances I know that our communal workers have put red/white tape and signs to warn folk of dangers. but they’ve not actually touched the offending whatever.

trouble is, if someone who is not authorised to touch said cable/pole… does do their own thing (with the best will in the world)… any future bad happening could be laid at their door and this could prove expensive and possibly involve the courts.

eg: grumpy-old-man goes up the pole to refix the cable… and at some future stage the pole falls on a passing car or person …. :thinking:
