Brown marmorated stinkbugs

Thats unfortunate as it shows how easy it is for “foreign” nasties to get everywhere these days. Hope you killed them.

"The bug began by wiping Abkhazia clean of its tangerine and hazelnut harvests – the small, Russia-backed separatist region’s lifeline. Then it advanced into Georgia proper to attack more hazelnut orchards and cornfields. Production of hazelnuts – Georgia is among the world’s five biggest producers – suffered $24 million in losses in 2016, a significant share of the $167 million in hazelnut and walnut exports that year.

“It is absolutely the worst plant pest that we have ever faced,” Nikoloz Meskhi, head of the Plant Protection Department of Georgia’s National Food Agency, told Eurasianet."

I haven’t watched the link but this bit really amused me, so predictable.

I absolutely detest these horrible bugs. If they stayed outside they might just be bearable but they don’t. They insist on sneaking into the house- usually by hiding in clean washing that I’ve brought in off the line! The other day, I was putting on a pair of clean leggings from the wardrobe and two fell out as I pulled the legs on! Normally, I don’t kill anything but I’m with you on this one Shiba.

Um, already posted at post no 18.

That seems rather extreme! If it just bit you but didn’t attach and feed then couldn’t have transferred any disease to you. Generally the advise is that under 12 hours risk is so minute. We are bitten fairly often as walk outside a lot, so are careful to check than none have attached themselves to us (they plump up and get huge!). To me the negatives of taking unnecessary antibiotics outweigh any risk.

(And I do have a friend with Lyme disease so I don’t take it lightly)

I put Frontline on one on my leg and it fell off! That was several years ago now and no effects at this stage.

Thanks Jane. I know someone in the US who has gone through awful Lyme disease experiences and I certainly don’t want that. The doctor advised me to take the tablets for 8 days to be sure. I may stop before that. I agree that the tique didn’t attach, but it did bite and draw blood, although no mouth parts were left behind (unlike OH last year who was bitten, and left with visible mouth parts and the telltale red circles. This antibiotic did not give him or me any problems and on balance I do think it’s better to be safe than sorry. Like you I always check now after we have spent time outside.

Which is why I don’t use Frontline, life’s hard enough without hobbling about on one leg. :astonished:
