Ceiling fans

I won’t buy anything Dyson either. We “inherited” a corded vacuum cleaner with tbe house, tried it once, rubbish.

Hello, FWIW today we received the 2 ceiling fans we had purchases from https://www.ventidecor.fr/ who were by far the cheapest supplier for the model we wanted.

I will let all the intellectuals to speak on design, but as a resident of Texas for the past 10 years, I feel I am qualified to jump in with my 2 cents on the practicality side of ceiling fans. First, ceiling fans make a huge difference to the ambiant air temperature and I absolutely recommend them. Things to note…
–They have a reverse direction feature to optimize the air movement in winter (clockwise) and in summer (counter-clock-wise). Very important to have this feature and use it
–More blades, the better - five will do a better job than three.
– Do choose the right diameter fan for the room size.
– Do choose the ones with blades at an angle. The one shown here is too flat.
– Do consider things like bunk beds, upper kitchen cabinets, slanted ceilings, etc. You dont want the fan anywhere close to those.
– Be prepared to periodically climb up there and dust the blades. Do you have a ladder and in a physical shape to use it?
– To select a fan dont just look at amps, but CubicFootPerMinute (or cubic meter) measure. It is not just about the sheer power but the efficacy of the design. Many modern-made fans conveniently silent about this measure.
– While at it, check the noise level specs at various settings. Even the quietest fan can be too noisy for sleeping for some people.
– My personal opinion, but fans with lights are to be avoided. First, any single overhead light is just a bad design idea as it creates terrible shadows and not cosy for living spaces. Unless, of course, it is a task light like over the dining table – but PLEASE, dont put a fan over the dining table unless you want cold food garnished with dust! Secondly, these fans with lights rarely have enough lumens these days to light up a room. Most are LED and weak. The one pictured here was an old model, and unless there are THREE light bulbs you are not lighing up anything. Finally, these older models require two separate wiring cables – one for fam motor and another for light. Modern models with crappo LED lights do not require 2 conduits, everything is electronically controlled via remote, so that’s a plus.

  • Finally, if you decide to still go with the one with the light, look for the replaceable bulb kind vs. integrated LED. Because once that LED goes bad you have to replace the whole fixture (a built-in obsolecense).

I had ceiling fans in my 2 bedrooms and salon in Valencia. Absolutely brilliant. When it’s 30C all night, with the a/c on ‘drying’ and the fan on #1, a decent night’s sleep. Also, the fans were reversable for ‘winter time’ use.

I tested this doubtful theory with a thermomenter set at ‘sitting on the sofa’ ht and at +1.5m. It worked. With the a/c on ‘warm’ mode the temp at the sofa was warmer than with the fans set in summer mode.

The bedroom fans had a switch that reversed the rotation. The fan in the salon needed the blades reversing by remounting the other way up. 1 bolt x3. I got them from Merlin +/- €80 ea.

We have a 5 blade reversible fan with a twin bulb light above the bed which does an excellent job.
Standing in the middle of the bed to turn the light on and off, or to start / stop the fan is not practical, so I wired it to two wall mounted switches, one for the fan and the other for the light. The fan has 3 speeds but we only ever use it on low so there is no need to struggle to reach that particular pull cord. Also, we only ever use it in summer, so we have no need to reverse the direction by climbing on the bed.
Dusting is done with one of those long handled swiffer things.
All in all, it works very well, but I do recommend having it controlled from wall switches rather than trying to use the pull cords.

I have absolutely no idea if this Lidl ceiling fan is any good but it has a solid number of high review ratings and accessible price. You can also send it back.within 30 days free of charge if you don’t like it.

There’s also a discount next Monday if they still have stocks by then if you look in their catalog online that would take it to 34 euros.

Contrary to what you may think, the website Only Fans does not sell only fans… I’ve just wasted two hours finding that out.

I’m also sleeping on the sofa tonight apparently.

We’ve got these in all the bedrooms in our place in Carcassonne, but bought them in Saudi and shipped them to France as the ones there were way too expensive. Ours are American. They make a huge difference in the summer, especially when one doesn’t want to turn on the Airconditioning.

I’ve these installed in our bedrooms and study.
They really make a difference and the 3 lights on each fan are enough for 15m2 room.
