COVID Vaccine help - Urgent

Thank you, Hi Paul, yes I have it points back to the same problem of not being able to select a vaccine type. Have been going round in circles for months with the same problem. My only option is to have it at a Hospital with the required facilities to help if I get in trouble anaphylactic wise.

I managed after a good search this morning to correct my naming error. thanks

Hello again Jane, yes a number of times, no reply. Also when I did have the help of a French speaker during holiday season 2020 help was requested locally but they didn’t have anyone who spoke English, they referred me to beziers who said I was to contact the local services, we went round and round for months and ended up with no assistance unfortunately. The embassy also went down this route a few weeks back and got the same reply. They are still working on getting me help but its slow going and I think they have almost given up too, they said they don’t think I’m safe here and advised that they should take me back to the uk!

Thank you for the site, I am not sure but this may have been one that I tried a year back. I will revisit anyway.

Sorry, can’t be of much help, but good luck getting everything sorted out.

Hi Marc,

Whereabouts in HĂ©rault are you? It sounds like “boots on the ground” are the best solution, so to speak, but I’m in the Gard and the Avignon side at that. I speak French but with work and whatever I can’t just come over. That said, I should have a business trip to Montpelier soon

Hello again Graham, thank you. I hope you are well as can be expected with your condition. Thank you for the information regarding Moderna, that is good, it won’t help GP or pharmacy wise but as you say the fact they will be floating around would mean there’s more of a chance for me to location one at a hospital. The requirement is that I have such bad reactions to medications that no one will give me anything unless inside a hospital with full resuscitation available or that I’ve previously been allergy tested for the drug in question.

I covered the town hall below I think, I don’t know why but they don’t seem to reply to anything I send. I’m at a total loss as to why this is to be honest. They are fully aware of my circumstances so I see no reason why they should withhold help.

Yes thank you, no the GP doesn’t speak a word of English unfortunately, I managed to do this myself with help of a friend a year back. I have the ALD and transport via medical taxis the required but booking these is tricky to say the least as they don’t speak English either and it is not possible here to book online :upside_down_face:

I did open up other help, eventually, it took two years to get to see the heart failure team at CHU Montpellier, unfortunately after just two weeks past that the hospital locked my bank account and started emptying my bank account in December 2020, this was due to the helicopters and hospital stays that were needed in 2019 prior to my receiving my CV card. I live 90 minutes from the a hospital that can help with my condition so its normally urgent and requires a helicopter. Nice view though! They didn’t honour that they would treat me and backdate it, as they said they would.

To cut a very very long story short they almost emptied my account and as a result I had to cancel all future medical appointments, have monitoring switched off and as hard as it is to say I had my defibrillator switched off. I had to choose between being able to eat , pay bills etc or healthcare. I chose to put food on my plate and food in my two cats tummies :heart_eyes_cat: That was back in January 2021, it is still not resolved. The embassy is working with the health system and the Hospital and they say they will give some of the money back, but nothing so far.

Just to add that my plan here in France was to rent the house during summer or to rent some bedrooms during summer time, its very good here for that, obviously with covid and high risk that’s not been possible. I ploughed huge amounts of funds into this house on that basis and then came covid. who could have planned for a pandemic ? We live and learn

Thanks again Graham

Hi Greg, thank you very much. Completely understand, France is a big country and not so easy to pop over! I am located Le Poujol-sur-Orb, 34600. If you can let me know when you are in Montpellier I can book a helicopter  Is there a way on this forum to message privately to enable members to share contact details ?

Thanks again Greg, appreciate your message.

Hi Marc
I just wonder if there is some advice @fabien (the SF insurance guru) can provide in your circumstances. It seems extraordinary for France that someone in your circumstances health wise is effectively abandoned and it’s not something I have experienced in my time here.
I too have a pacemaker/defibrillator and am curious about “I had my defibrillator switched off”. Was that at your request or enforced by the CHU? You say its a long story - and I’m sure it is - but if you don’t want the reply to be in the public area, you can DM me.
(just click on the name and you will see the option to message).
France is normally strong on human rights issues as is the EU so there must be other avenues to explore.
What has gone before is dreadful but by all accounts, you are not tied to Montpellier CHU. Your right to seek medical attention elsewhere in France persists and you should seek help in this regard from your MT who can provide the relevant letter. I did this with my eye appointments and was referred to Limoges CHU who, whilst having a massive waiting time for appointments, agreed to see me urgently. Long journeys by ambulance car (>150 km) can be authorised in advance by CPAM so there should be no worries there.
Are all you other ducks in a row (such as WARP)?
A further point about organising transport. Our ambulance company have an email address as I’m sure yours must have too. Would it be possible perhaps to scan in the convocation and email it to them (using google translate perhaps)?

Hi Marc
You can send a private message to someone by clicking on their logo (next to a message they’ve posted) and message icon will appear. Clickon that and you should be in the messages area.

Alternatively, click on your own icon at the top of the screen, then click on the envelope at the top twice and you’ll be able to message anyone whose id you know

Good luck

Angela

Hi Marc & Graham, I’m no expert when it comes to the CPAM itself and recourses one may have but I do know where to knock. In your case you may try to start here => English pages | ameli.fr | AssurĂ©

That’s the CPAM’s english speaking helpline which can be joined on the 09 74 75 36 46

Having someone on the phone that you can talk with in English may be really helpful too. Don’t hesitate to call multiple times if the first agent is not really helpful but they usually are.

Hope this help, Graham is correct in saying that this doesn’t seem like normal “French behaviour” so I’m certain there are other solutions.

Good luck,

Thanks @fabien
Am I correct in thinking that if @mpjr16 doesn’t have a mutuelle in his circumstances he would probably benefit from one and his pre-existing heart and eye problems would not preclude him access.

Wouldn’t most be covered by his ALDs? Insuffisance cardiaque is one, diabetes another. Or are you meaning to get access to a legal service? Perhaps he has that with his house insurance?

I too am baffled why he has has such a crap service. And why none of the voluntary groups such as the Association pour le soutien à l’insuffisance cardiaque haven’t taken up the cudgels on his behalf.

For someone so young this is verging on a huma right issue I agree!

(Such as shame we were in Poujol sur Orbs for 3 weeks last October and maybe could have helped
but now very far away!)

Courage Marc!

We don’t have medical questionnaires on Mutuelle indeed so no preclusion whatever the medical history

Agreed, should be covered with ALD but remember that ALD is “just” the equivalent of having a 100% mutuelle so high end specialists / consultants may still apply out of pocket fees, even in his case.

@JaneJones I have an ALD for insuffisance cardiaque (amongst others) but I do have a mutuelle (through @fabien) for the very reasons stated by him. I realise you have an aversion to mutuelle but that is no reason not to explore that avenue.

Hello Marc. I came across a post on another site where someone said they had had an anaphylactic shock in the past and gets allergic reactions and they were worried about the vaccination. They had the Pfizer but took antihistamines for 3 days before and the day after and they were fine.
Obviously their situation is totally different to yours and nothing like as serious, however, I thought I would post this info just on the off chance that there might be some value in asking about taking antihistamines before your vaccination.
Wishing you all the best with your continuing battle with getting a vaccination.

Sorry if this has been mentioned as the post is long. Have you checked on www.doctolib.fr make an appointment. If they don’t have moderna, walk away.
Hope you get sorted

Hi Marc
Not knowing your area do you have a tourist office nearby? In my small village we do and they have assisted me, with a phone call, on offering my mobile. Just a thought before the season takes off.
As mentioned doctolib.fr has enabled me to book our vaccinations. my husband has ALD status for his heart condition and has delayed because of choice available. If you put in your village it will list centres offering rdv’s and then vaccine type by centre, inc hospitals if within your locality. We are in 03 bordering 63
Another idea maybe to reach out to sapeur pompier staff, maybe one of them speaks english? At least they would have an understanding of health dilemma.
Wishing you success in finding a solution.
