I am not confused as to what it is, only why someone should be using it.

I always change the 24hr to 12hrs for clarification of the number and will already have confirmed “afternoon” if applicable… never got 'em muddled up yet… (fingers crossed)
Oh because language isn’t set in stone and we use both as the whim takes us. I may say both in one conversation, eg buying a train ticket I’ll ask for a départ vers treize heures but I’ll tell my pal we can meet up for coffee at destination à trois heures.
Yes I was just confused about why you would say twenty-five to five OR four thirty-five because they are the same thing.
one person says one thing and I automatically check, by saying the other… whatever that might be… and I’m either corrected… or a nod/oui tells me I’ve understood…
edit… of course I only do this for making appointments etc… not when someone’s timekeeping…
