No I haven't because I don't have enough money to require transfers but I recommended them to a friend who was doing a lot of research into the best and cheapest way to transfer money. He has used them ever since and is very happy with them.

Yes James I did and responded to it in similar terms. As far as I can gather most posters who are “happy” with your recommendation were previously being ripped off by banks or over the counter exchanges. Once you include the fees your choice does not compare well with brokers I use and mt transfers are usually faster as well.

Radio 4 this morning was talking about the next UK bank scandal where the banks have been fixing exchange rates for at least 8 years. For my earliest time here I used Barclays, then Santander, before I moved to specialised firms as that market developed. I was trying to do a rough calculation on how much I transferred over 8 or 10 years and it adds up, as my income has always been from the UK. This could develop into something significant and I suggest we all watch this space. I recently got back 1k euros for PPI misselling so anything helps. It would not be income either so my reading is it is not taxable as such which would be a nice bonus! Could take years!

Any currency broker could do this for you and accounts are easy to set up on line. I use XE Trade which consistently gives the best rates, or World First. Ask for a “Best rate guarantee” on your account. You need to set up your grandson’s account as a recipient (you can have several of these so include your own account in UK as well. Or you could send it to your UK account and send your grandson a cheque in UK£.

I tried it for £2K and it worked a treat. I still use TorFX for the bigger stuff as peer to peer can take a few days, but I would say the rates are exceptional. You won't find cheaper. Thanks
Yes, we have used them since the recommendation and ever since. I find it is the best rate you can get anywhere.
No I haven’t. The rates are not as good as XE Trade or Halifax Clarity MasterCard neither of which charge any fees for transfer to France or using ATMs respectively.
I can only assume that you are plugging this service so hard because you get commission or some other personal benefit from them.

I use it every month to transfer around £2000 at a time. I pay on average £9.95 to do so but get a great exchange rate and it is certainly cheaper than using the banks. Earlier this year I was paying £25 to carry out a CHAPS transfer from the UK and then my French bank decided to start charging €42 this side too! They only managed to do it to me once which is when I decided to give Transferwise a try. Great service for someone like me making small but regular transfers...
I used CurrenctFair for my last transfer. Very simple process, very good exchange rate and 3€ fee. Transfer completed within a few hours.
