What apps do you get on the Manhattan 4K? My sister in law needs something and this would fit the bill, but she wants NowTV.
Edit: Answered my own question … it doesn’t do NowTV. Only the Netgem Pleio can do NowTV as it’s Android based and has access to the Android app store.
Hi Tony. I’m thinking of getting an Aero and have seen this ITV channels issue reported online as well. Can I ask if your Unifi Router had a local ntp time zone set, and if so was it set to UK time or French time. I have a router set to UK time and have used my PC with Chrome and Brave, my tablet and phone, my TV and my STB to stream ITV channels via the VPN router and they all work with NordVPN so I see no reason why the Aero shouldn’t work. Can you check your router and let me know ?
Hi, my NTP is set to local time and it’s only the Aero that was having problems with ITV. So, for example my Apple TV works fine and so does the ITV Apps on my iPhone, etc. Saying this, since my Aero is working fine with my private VPN I’ve not tried NordVPN since my first attempt. It could be that NordVPN is now working for ITV/Aero as the public VPNs are in a game of “whack a mole” with the TV companies. This is why I created a private WireGuard VPN server on a Raspberry Pi that is installed at my daughter’s house for our use only.
Thanks Tony. If you do try the Aero again with your local VPN, can you change the ntp server to the UK to see if it works ? It’ll be interesting to see if it does.
I had a look to disable NTP and it’s a right pain on UniFi Gateway’s and so it’s not something that I would want to do - sorry. I did setup my Aero to use U.K. time when I first tested and so it’s not using my local time zone via NTP. Also I did a DNS leak test and this was fine as well and so I’m pretty sure my end is fine.
I think I’ll get the Aero anyway even though some people report ITV channels not streaming from the TV Guide. I’ve tried using Smart DNS rather than the VPN and that seems to work on my TV just fine with it’s inbuilt apps and the ones on my Freesat STB.
You won’t been disappointed with Freely. We are very pleased. The only thing to get used to is channel switching takes 2-3 seconds (at least for us) and there is no recording capability. The channel guide is very good!
Freely is a great way to view Free to view channels in France. Disney, Netflix and a few other paid services can be added as well. You’ll need a VPN configured router. Some companies sell them together as a package.
Seems to me the whole VPN thing is a house of cards. Once the tv companies have the capability of blocking use of VPNs (as happens sometimes now) then we will be denied UK tv in Europe if there is no satellite service.
It has happened since virtually day one, not just now. But the internet, or at least this side of it, has been a continuous battle between content creators / distributors and pirates (and their grey market cousins), and I can’t see that stopping any time soon. As the geoblocks get better, so will the ways around it.
