Dog photos only

Lord Alfred of Normandy now employs a native bearer to convey him on his walks. Apologies for including said native bearer in the photo.Alfred really struggles after only about 10 minutes walking - which is strange as he is barely 8. We’re having him scanned today to see if the vets can find out why he’s so reluctant to walk - he previously absolutely loved walks.

A quick trawl back and it looks like I forgot to post her pups growing up…

They look sweet there. How did you get them to line up like that?

What is it that we can’t see? Amazing to get such a crowd to all concentrate at once,
Lovely picture. :joy:

Must be tied down then, out of sight.

Or obedient?

There is a dog, Jules, in this photo but the main point is to show the Mark err 10 version of the Spardo Patent Don’t Step On Your Dog’s Long Line invention.

Wearing it (me) while attached to it (he) does not for good photos make but I did my best. After several attempts at perfection and the final use of a document black spring clip it still was not working properly. Mainly because the smallness of the clip did not lend itself to easy passage of the line through it. I needed a bigger one and, while in Nontron, dived into Super U to search. What I did find was much better, a very large spring carabiner, much larger and therefore easier to release and operate. So I bought 2 and another of a different design, just in case.

It worked perfectly yesterday but for one thing, as I have to continuously raise that arm to use the right hand Alpine stick the arm soon feels the weight of lifting all this stuff with each step.

So today I tried to use just one stick and leave the right arm hanging loose with the clip hanging below it. Success!! An added bonus is that if Jules goes where I can’t easily follow but nevertheless know I can reach the long line if necessary, I can very easily release the line from the clip.

Met one snag, easily rectified. If I let him wander down a long path which I don’t want to follow, when he comes back there is a long loop which takes time to feed back which leaves the line in danger of being stood on. Instead of standing there till it is all taken up, I can unclip and reclip right behind him, thus rendering him once again treadless. . :joy:

If you are wondering why he appears to be unattached, that is because, to prevent wear and tear on the poor lad’s neck the line is attached to a ring at the rear of the harness, after all, you wouldn’t expect to jump out of an aeroplane with your parachute tied to your throat, now would you?

Where’s Paco? does he not go for walks too?

Fortunately Paco doesn’t need the equivalent of a sedan chair and is very happy to walk alongside me for miles.

Lord Alfred had a scan this evening but the vets were unable to detect anything that would explain why he is so reluctant to walk for more than a few minutes…other than the fact that he is a potent cocktail of very stubborn Terrier, Pomeranian and Chihuahua!

@Adam1 - have they all been sold or are there any left?

Heart? Heat?
My parent’s Jack Russell had heart trouble. Went through a stage where he was only too happy to be tucked into a rucksack on OH’s back, with a beatific expression of contentment on his face.

Heaven :heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

The vets diagnosed a degenerative issue with his heart but said it was slow to develop and certainly wouldn’t explain his reluctance to walk. Being small, very furry and black, he is highly vulnerable to heat issues, but this reluctance to walk has been evident for months, including throughout the winter. We really are no nearer knowing why, unfortunately…

Yes, all sold very quickly (this was in Sept ‘24.) I posted some photos at the time, but forgot this, the best one!

Their attention was grabbed by a clockwork jumping duck - since attacked and killed by the little runt who was by far the lad-lout of the litter.

In a previous life, long long ago, I had a dog who spent all of one night having pup after pup after pup. To show you how traumatised I was by the whole affair (I adopted her without knowing she was pregnant) has been completely expunged from my memory and I have absolutely no idea how we distributed them.

One day I’ll pluck up the courage to ask my former wife, but that is why I have always stuck to adopting dogs who were elderly and been ‘sorted’.

Never occurred to me that one day I would be as elderly as them and it would be touch and go as to who would then need rehoming.

Years ago, when I worked for Post Office Telephones, I was sent to repair a fault way out in the boonies in Hampshire. I climbed a pole and fixed the fault. As I was leaving, the subscriber mentioned that every time her phone rang, her dog, (who was attached to a long metal clothes line with his metal chain lead, giving him ample space to run) would start barking and leaping up and down, apparently in some discomfort. I sussed out that as she was on a “ party-line” ( remember those?) her ‘phone was an “earth ringer.” The earth was attached to the metal clothes pole, buried in the ground. Consequently, every time the ‘phone rang, the ringing current, which gave you a nasty jolt, went to earth through the poor dog! I re routed the earth. Result- happy dog! Just another tale from the life of a country lineman!

Another AVC (mini stroke) for Jules this morning. After we had completed the walk he carried on home when I sat down for my traditional rest and contemplation at the top corner of the new forest. After a few minutes he re-emerged climbing the path towards me.

When he go here I gave him a treat, and had one myself, (sossejezz), and expected him to settle down as he usually does. But not this time he started to perambulate all the time panting rapidly, classic symptoms which I haven’t seen for a year or more.

I managed to stop him a few times by cuddling his head with hands and forehead but it has been going on for half an hour now. At least he is in the coolest place at the moment.

If I can, I’ll send this short video off to the vets and see what they say, he has already been on 2 pills a day for a couple of years now and they seemed to be doing the trick.

Can’t get it to work, I’ll never understand this stuff, it worked before when I didn’t realise it was a video but not this time.
