Thank you for that information (I mean that sincerely). Some are saying that the Attestation du Accueil is for the owner of the property to prove they have sufficient room and is a requirement by the Mayor. Others are saying it is not needed at all. And the kind gentleman (George 1) who cycled into the Dieppe ferry port to ask an official - thank you. My mayor says yes you are supposed to do it but not many do. In fact between the numbers on the copies from last year that I have only 1 other has been used before I collected this years. I would ask therefore if those who have responded can tell me their thoughts on this: https://www.prefectures-regions.gouv.fr/hauts-de-france/content/download/84742/545852/file/Travelling_UK_to_France.pdf. I am not being picky I would really rather not waste my time on such things any more. Thank you.
If we are talking about the Attestation dâaccueil then I think itâs more like one possible legal document that a traveller into France might be asked to produce. As for being stopped and asked to produce one how can that be mandatory when most tourist visits do not need one anyway.
I suspect it would only be required if the border guard had some suspicions about the intent of the visitor - but most travellers in posession of a return ticket are not going to be quizzed.
In fact, if I want friends to stay at our house it is impossible (as a 2nd home owner) for me to send them one as Iâm not resident.
Thank you for that information (I mean that sincerely).

I am not being picky I am receiving conflicting information. I will close this down if you all do not mind. I have decided that if I wish to see other family members who live in the UK I will take a break and go and visit them - perhaps we could all get together at a lovely campsite near a beach and enjoy ourselves - good for me and them.
If you read the government attestation instructions it is clear that it is addressed to YOU, should you wish to have a non-european to stay.
âVous souhaitez hĂ©berger un Ă©tranger non europĂ©en pour un sĂ©jour touristique de moins de 3 mois ? Vous devez demander une attestation dâaccueil auprĂšs de votre mairie .â
I canât find any references to what happens if you donât get one, There are previsions for fines and so on if you get one fraudulently, but nothing about not bothering!
As for the person visiting, if their host has given them an attestation dâaccueil then they only need to show they have funds of âŹ32 a day for the duration of their visit. However with no attestation, and no reserved accommodation then they merely have to show funds equivalent to âŹ120 a day.
So a credit or debit card with ÂŁ1500 limit will do fine for two week visit. Or a bank statement of savings account if want to be very sure. If they are even askedâŠ
