In the Aveyron and Cantal, the animals lived downstairs.
Our coolest room is on the ground floor (probably originally a riverside warehouse rather than a stable) and this summer I’ve only needed the fan mode in its Daikin air to air pump - dehumidifier mode if it gets into the forties. In the afternoons the dehumidifier mode on the middle floor does a good job, the fan mode is usually sufficient for our top floor bedroom whereas in mid-summer the guest suite often needs more than just the fan option.
Some people talk about these units in binary terms - AC and heating modes, but there’s also other options in between.
No , the compressor - fan unit is on an external wall below. You can feel the chilled air or in heating mode the heated air but minimal flow. Same in all rooms.
They are very light and with 2 people, it’s easy to lump them around.
Actually, this place is on a split level where the bikes are is is on the entry level to the house. The land is very steep here.
The same bikes though were more tricky to bring into our apartment in NL…it’s a two floor apartment and we have 1st and second floors……(we took a window out and used a loading hoist).
I’m selling the by the way. Both VBB 150 from 1962 and 63. Unregistered and used as clothes stands at the moment….fully restored and ready to ride…horrible brakes though).
We fitted one a couple of years ago, on a temporary basis. It did not last a fortnight, it was far too noisy for a bedroom that contains a person who can hear a fly fart from thirty paces. It has since been replaced with a regular multi split unit.
Yes, a bit like me as a newbie frigo driver after 50 odd years of avoiding them. Trying to sleep in the cab only a couple of metres away from the start/stop rattling frigo engine was not my idea of recharging relaxation. Worse than that, the thing thought it was doing me a favour by whistling to warn me just before it cracked up each time.
Apart from risking trailer theft and parking behind it I took the next best solution. Retirement.
Has anyone tried the heat reflective film that you apply to the windows? I am trying to find practical alternatives to air con that actually work/ help.
I’ve seen fans that have a water reservoir and throw out a fine mist. I’ve only ever seen them outside but I believe they work inside as well. Has anyone used one?
I have an extra question if anyone knows about this. Years ago, a local restaurant had a brumatiseur system with a timer that sprayed a very fine mist from the ceiling. It was fine enough that no one got wet but it really cooled the air. I expect it’s an expensive solution to the problem but we haven’t forgotten about it.
Something like this but the system we knew didn’t turn the air white with spray.
Yes, it does lessen the heat being transferred through the standard traditional double glazed French window. Got the highest rated UV blocking film from Amazon.fr
Dropped the temp in that room by a couple of degrees C.
Do invest in the fitting/roller kits you’ll be offered as well as a small water sprayer and some tranquillisers to keep your blood pressure near normal when trying to remove all the air bubbles
