EU pet passport versus AHC

My dogs flat out refuse the worming meds as we leave France and the vet just hands it to us and leaves it to us to administer!!!

Our girl is well behaved and every tablet is a (sweetie) naturally followed by actual sweets from us or the vet.

We stopped keeping their other vaccinations up to date as a vet once told us these are unnecessary and just a way of the vets making more money. I know some will say we are foolish but our dogs never interact with other dogs or go in kennels and Poppy our cavalier lived until she was 14 - only vaccinated for the first 3 years of her life. Lily is now 12 and was also only vaccinated for 3 years.

That’s a personal choice, we only have one dog and the cost isn’t huge plus he’s always in contact with other dogs.

I think that this may have been mentioned above, only just arrived at this thread, but my understanding was that since quite some years French vets were not allowed to issue passports for foreign dogs. Not sure how this affects you but worth bearing in mind.

Not sure if you were replying to me David but our dog had a EU PP before we moved back so we are entitled to carrying on using it.

It was a general comment but I did not mean that they were now illegal or unacceptable, what I meant was that vets had been told not to issue them any more , pre-existing ones weren’t affected as far as I know.

What a great shame it was, yet another downside of Brexit. Used to be a right carry on, crossing the Channel with a dog. Can’t remember exactly but you got the rabies done, waited weeks to make sure it had held and then I seem to remember more months.

Then, liberation day, the advent of the pet passport and almost free travel back and forth. I was involved with both systems transporting dogs and then, Brexit. And all that good work was thrown away.

Well the good news is that ‘the powers that be’ are in discussion about UK pet passports and the hope is that these will be in effect in 2027!

Anyway, following advice from a previous poster I contacted Chris at Easy Pet Travel by the eurotunnel and will collect my AHC document for £99 just before we travel. The process has been so easy and Chris has been incredibly helpful and responsive that I thoroughly recommend his service. When I have to purchase another AHC it will only be £69.

Thanks ‘Corona’ for your referral to Chris at the euro tunnel - he was so helpful - and the AHC was only £99 and £69 when we need it renewed (hopefully by then the UK pet passport will be agreed)! Here is the link again to Chris:
