Well the beetle with it’s aircooled engine which was in the early models and the bigger body gives it the exact same lineage as any of what we now call MPVs .. As in my first answer … it’s just a marketing term
Agreed so lets get back to knocking Matchbox hot wheels looking SUV’s not that great as they have too many design details and smaller internal space, looks like you could carry furniture but in reality not.
Despite the note in the title another thread that’s drifted far enough to go on my ignore list.
That’s not really true - we were about to put a settee in the back of our Karoq to bring it back from Emmaus, we brought a large chest of drawers to the French house as well. However they are a compromise between a car and van, with the advantages and disadvantages you would expect.
Dont concern yourself AM, the Skoda’s still do better than most and are more estate than SUV, well to me at any road. Still on my list for next vehicle.
I’ve tended to focus on the medium SUVs that are practical - in retrospect there were some poor designs around too.
It’s impossible to avoid. There are hundreds (perhaps thousands)) of idiots wasting viewers time giving no insight and just waffling on. One couldn’t possibly block all of them. It’s the total lack of QA that’s the problem. The custodians are obviously the platform owner. But why would there be QA? Probably overall, idiots generate more clicks than genuine content does. Because you have to click on loads of them to find a anyone that knows what they are talking about or makes sense.

That is not what I understood as the Multipla. I recall the most ugly van /car thing about 12 years ago about the size of a Kangoo. It had headlamps that looked like bugs eyes on stalks ..and I remember an acquaintance having one and she was thrilled with it’s practicality
Don’t be unkind, they are quirky ![]()
. We adored ours, to the point we still have it hoping for dh to find time to replace something big needing the engine out. Best car, wonderful view, 6 proper seats, picnic tables, totally customisable rear seat removal (1,2, or 3). We hope to get ours going to pull our caravan, when we renovate that ![]()

The last Multipla was imaginative and interesting, which is more than can be said for many current designs.
Ahh Dan. That was the new Multipla, an attempt to revive the model. Delightfully ugly but sadly a failure. As an old fart I remember the original. Here’s a close up of the badge of the one I spotted..
I’d say a new badge is probably impossible to source now. A decent Multipla seems to command 20 to 30k these days.
I’m not sure how well it would do in NCAP these days. I suppose everyone would be wiped out instantly would be the rating.
Probably quite similar to being passed rapidly through a cheese grater…
A local electrician is going to install 4kwp solar and I’m wondering what we could include in readiness for when we buy an EV. V2H would be great to have. Not decided on car yet but we may buy an Elroq, despite my earlier criticisms of SUVs. Not bad looking actually. My wife’s not yet convinced - saying it’s enormous etc , but when our 8 year old Octavia expires or becomes uneconomical to maintain, I’m not sure a Renault 5 will be ideal to take on it’s role.
What do you think of the MG 4 ? For SUV-phobics (I am one)
Not quite an MG Im5 which looks, at least, stunning.
A cut down Enyaq, which I am still considering.
After being seduced by the cute factor of the R5, I am now edging towards a Megane instead as my future EV purchase - not as sexy but slightly bigger and more range, which will be helpful given that I am likely to be going up and down from Cornwall to Guildford fairly often,
Also I can get a second-hand Megane that has done a lot of its depreciating, while Fives are still fairly new.
I just wish they wouldn’t put silly 20" wheels on cars these days though.
That’s what put me off the Mégane. Apart from being easier to damage, the price of 20" tyres is rather ![]()
