Spinal Tap is definitely on the list

What I find with Wes Anderson films is that they get under my skin (in a good way). They are so distinctive, so quirky, that long long after I’ve watched them I still have their imagery in my head.
I have not watched The Royal Tennenbaums in nearly twenty years yet I still have a sense of it that lingers.

In the middle of watching The Assassination Bureau with Diana Rig and Oliver Reed - 1960 comedy was so genteel.

Loving it. Just started series two. I’m amused by the fact that Mackenzie Crook has written it and directed it and has cast himself as the romantic lead.

Also the theme music has become an earworm.

Just heard “The Weight” playing on OH’s computer and remembered it was used in one of my all-time favourite films - The Big Chill. Watched it so often. Fantastic cast. Incredible soundtrack.

About to finish series 3 (and the special) and thinking about going back to the beginning again.

Also love the fact that Diana Rigg and her daughter were in it together not long before Diana died.

I saw her onstage in Tom Stoppard’s Jumpers many, many years ago. Glad she continued to work right to the end.

Sorry @JaneJones , hijacking your film thread.

I had a real crush on Diana Rigg in my early 20s. Sad she’s gone.

When I first saw her daughter in the detectorists I recognized something in her face. When later I saw that Diana Rigg was also in the series I put 2 and 2 together - googled - and I was right!

She really was fantastic in The Avengers

I’ve become so enamoured by the detectorists I downloaded all 18 episodes and have merged them together in one long 8.5 hour video. I’d like to see it in one long go instead of once a week. Don’t like weekly series.

I shall have to plan a day with all meals laid on and sit back and relax!

Pity there isn’t a short novel with all that magic woven in.

Getting back to films…

A film I first saw on TV – La Grande Seduction (Seducing Doctor Lewis) – which I later got on DVD.

A lovely gentle film made in French Quebec I think.

Not my thread! Especially as only a few of these films are ones I like! You would have to tie me down and feed me valium to make me watch Zombieland.

OH did exactly the same.

I’m not one for watching horror films, but tonight ‘War of the Worlds’ by Steven Spielberg was on TV, and that truly is a horror movie. Great movie maker is Spielberg. If I had to choose a favourite horror film it would be this one I think.

Tom Cruise and lots of blood.

Inspiration.

Just makes you want to grab a stick and head for the fields this spring!

I enjoyed that very much, and I really didn’t expect to. (Only got as far as the start of the third series.)

But the tall chap is really irritating: so childish and inept in his relationship with his copine.

Possibly meant to be that way, he did write the series and is one of the comic actors from the Office series, assuming the ‘tall man’ you refer to is the unshaven unkempt detectorist.

He is the writer - and is like that in real life - very diffident. IMO he is a superb writer about the ordinary, small stuff of life. Love him.
