Fibre optical cables and providers

Fibre will be available to us later this year. We have already been told we won’t have to pay no matter who we choose as a provider. I currently get about 85Mbps which is plenty for us, but I will go for fibre because of reliability and much greater immunity from lightening strikes. We have had two routers fried during lightening storms, along with my own VPN router and a printer connected to the router. We’re now very paranoid about unplugging the router from the telephone line when lightening is around. We’ve never had an issue with lightening over the power grid, just the telephone line.

Get yourself a UPS with inbuilt parafoudre. Peace of mind and it will keep you connected if the power goes off

I had a good surge arrestor specifically for anything connected directly or indirectly to the telephone line. It was destroyed to :rage:
