Form 3916 issues

Yes I think it’s quite a recent addition. Introduced, I believe, to try to combat money laundering.

From your espace particulier, you can also print off - at any time - full copies of the individual appendices you have submitted. Not just the summary of the tax return.
From memory, once you’re in your espace particulier, I think you click on “documents”.

I agree that the obligation to declare all overseas accounts open, closed etc dates from 1.1.2019, so relatively recently…

However there have long been obligations to declare certain overseas accounts. From around 2008, there were requirements to declare accounts based in countries that France had not concluded tax information exchange agreements, as part of fraud and tax evasion measures. The scope has gradually expanded over the subsequent years to arrive at the current requirements…

I have done that too, but I like to carry the info on my phone so that I always have it with me.

Hi, you must report all accounts open during the year, so you have to click yes. If you clicked no it would likely be deleted so you would have an ‘undeclared’ account open during the tax year?

You’ve given me an idea though - just don’t bother to fill in the date of closure and next year simply click ‘no’ for those closed accounts?

I had an account that was open in 2023, but I closed it in 2024, a one year fixed term account. This was the account I correctly declared as open on my 2023 - 2024 tax form as it was opened in 2023 but put NO on the list of accounts on my 2024 - 2025 accounts list as I closed it mid 2024 and then I put the closed date on the individual account form.
Otherwise , why would there be a NO box? I can’t see that this is incorrect, because , by the time I filled my tax form in in April 2025, the account no longer existed. I’ve given correct open and closed details. The question asks for details of accounts " open, or closed in 2024".

Ah, there’s the rub. I don’t want to choose ‘no’ , although that seems the intuitive option if it has been closed since '24 tax return. It looks like I will be choosing ‘yes’ as the instructions say.
I managed to lose all info twice in previous years and it is impossible to simply download a copy of a previous submission, afaik.
I don’t think the French are very good at playing the internets, going by my experiences with online stores, tax, health, bank, and others. Then again, I suppose it might just be me.
I will wait for a response from the impots elves, (goblins) nonetheless.
Thanks to you and Helenochka. I will report my progress.

Helenochka, thank you re printing off old annexes. I had not noticed the line below, saying “Afficher les documents liés”
I must retract my slur on the French internet capability, it was indeed - me.

I just thought of something else to muddy the waters. Sorry.
I have only been declaring accounts opened or closed in the previous year (in this case '24) since that is the tax year concerned.
Should we be adding, NOW, any accounts opened so far in '25 ?

Well , I’m not doing it. So there!

No, don’t declare any new accounts you’ve opened in 2025. Leave some fun for next year.

Your tax return is for the year 2024.

Probably not necessary to declare new accounts in advance, but you have nothing to lose if you do. I have nothing against listing these accounts in 3916 and after it’s been done once, the following year is easy.
What I don’t appreciate being asked are the amounts for savings. At least they don’t ask this in 3916. I know that they can probably find out if they want to know, but I consider that to be private information.

Do you mean interest on savings? I’ve not seen a box asking for amount of savings in total, though I could easily have missed this.

No, only interest

Phew!!

Why would you object to being asked about the amount of interest on savings?
It’s taxable income, like any other.

No, no objection to giving the interest amounts. Of course it has to be done to calculate tax owed, so no objection whatsoever. I meant to be asked about total money being held in accounts (which is not asked for in the declarations or annexe 3916), but can sometimes be asked for by financial institutions.

I don’t, my ‘phew’ was because I hadn’t missed a box asking for savings.

The form 3916 doesn’t seem to be pre filled with the accounts listed last year. Is this another error by the tax office?

Did you read the above, posted earlier in the thread by Survive15? Could this be the problem?
