French Driving Licence.. ambiguous advice

I have looked at the Attestation de depot securise de demande de permis de conduire again. Although it says the person is entitled to the driving rights listed above. I had hoped it would list the categories that I am allowed to drive but I can not see them. There is a QR code but it is not clear (to me) how to get any useful information from it. Again am I missing something ?

Well I can answer part of my question now. I received confirmation yesterday that Nantes had received my UK driving licence. Today I checked the ANTS website and it said my application was validee’. I then received an email saying that my new licence would be with me in 15 days. Hooray. I tried to download it onto my phone via france-identite but it does not seem to accept a Titre de Sejour as proof of existence. It appears to need a national identity card.
Nearly there !!

No, for French nationals only. However it is so clunky that I deleted it anyway.

sit back, relax… 15 days isn’t that long…

It’ll work for anyone with French ID card, which is why I’ve applied for a CdS even thought I don’t need one. I fancied having my CV on it. But if it’s clunky maybe I shouldn’t have bothered.

Sorry, no it doesn’t. It accepted me with my CNI but not OH with his permanent CdS. He can get the identité numérique only.

I didn’t know there was a difference. Two ID apps? (plus one from La Poste)

La poste is just a way of accessing it. But it seems you are right that since Feb this year they say it is “available to everyone with new style identity card” meaning a plastic credit card. They don’t specify whether just CNI’s.

Can’t be bothered to try it again for OH as he hates apps anyway but give it a go and tell us? Giscard posted (above) that it wouldn’t accept his CdS but perhaps it was a glitch.

Surely the CNI is an Identity Card for a French National…

Is France now saying that the Carte de Sejour is also an Identity Card albeit for foreigners ???

I thought one’s Passport was (for foreigners) the “Indentity Card” equivalent

just slightly confused by all this…

Well it is Stella :slightly_smiling_face: Back in '81 I just carried my CdS with me, not my passport.

Carte de séjour, driving licence (French) and your passport are all adequate to prove your identity if stopped. Only the passport allows you to cross a EU borders if you are a third country national.

I’m on the ball Jane :joy: However as soon as I applied for the CdS they whipped me in for fingerprints and no news since. The wheels grind slowly. Interestingly the procedure to get a CdS even if you don’t actually need one is the same as if you need one. But since one doesn’t need one, one wouldn’t have kept all the paperwork, utility bills etc. I had a bit of a scrabble to get all the bits together.

Is that a ‘Connexion truth’ perhaps? I thought it had changed to 12 months before expiry?

I also thought it had changed to 12 months before expiry.

I’m pretty sure the omnipotent @kim said 12 months and I know which of the two I would believe.

Jane is correct it’s only available for French ID holders. There’s a good chance they’ll roll it out at sometime for TdS’s but for now you’ll have to carry your card.

Sorry utter drivel from them.

They’ve confused everyone. There are specific timelines for application depending on your nationality and the licence you hold and what visa you have arrived on … this has just sent people off down the rabbit hole and more un-necessary work for CERT/ANTS.

UK - has recently been agreed to JUST UNDER 12 MONTHS before expiry, sorry for shouting, not when you feel like. The same really for EU licences but not so stringent.

Non-EU - EU passport
Have to live in France for 6 months then have 12 months to start and validate the application.

Non-EU - Non-EU passport - 12 month visa
Have 12 months from validation of their visa with OFII.

Non-EU - Non-EU passport - 3 month visa.
Have 12 months from issue date of first TdS.

Somebody said it should change it’s name to the Correction … with so many times it gets things wrong.

I’ve dual citizenship Kim, I don’t need a CdS, it’s only an experiment to see if it’ll work with the app. The result of too much time on my hands :slightly_smiling_face:
