Same here. I’ve got timber beams across the ceilings of my kitchen, living room, hall and toilet, and it’s not easy to see the webs of those long legged *blind spiders, between the beams, that generally hang upside down on their untidy webs, until those webs hang lower than the beams and light from the windows pinpoints them, then out comes the broom!
*I think they’re blind, and they come to life at night.
Yes, I found that more disturbing than my sequence of stills even though I was there at the time seeing it unfold, without knowing the outcome in advance.
I don’t feel quite the same way about flies, even though, before the absolute plague I couldn’t cope with, I capture or usher them outside. I eventually took to the vacuum cleaner to clear them and only later, when I tried to liberate them outside, did I discover that it was so violent that it killed them.
You’ll just need to hang around while it grows up… then you can check again
the vertical pupil (of the bad guy) is actually very distinctive.. I’ve seen both sorts of serpents around our house etc.. and, frankly, I’m happy to leave ‘em all alone
I am not sure, looking at the round eyes I am inclined to agree but it doesn’t appear to have the white tache at the back of the head which is an identifying feature of the couleuvre, like my Hissing Sid.
A couple of days ago, I was a bit startled to see what looked like an egret on steroids in the usual cattle field that often contains a lot of egrets. It was white and just the same shape as an egret and about 3 times the size (at least) but I’ve never seen one of these before. (No photo, sorry - not being a modern young person who has a smartphone with them at all times… )
I lived in the Aveyron for ten years. We used to get eagles and vultures regularly flying over our shack in the mountains, searching for the carcasses of deceased sheep and cattle, until the authorities decided to collect said carcasses. Hence fewer eagles and buzzards. However, a daily occurrence when I was cycling was the sightings of families of Sangliers and Chevroi. Also massive butterflies flying up from the Mediterranean, along with many different bird and insect species. I now live in the Pays de la Loire, where in some areas, the farmers are destroying our eco system. You know what I mean? Nuff said.
