A nightingale, maybe 4. And at long last I know that the bird I’ve been calling “the telephone bird” is in fact a hoopoe !
Didn’t hear a cuckoo though. Seems gone for summer?
There were 2 ravens who might have made a nest in my rear garden. They flew away together out of a tree as I approached and there is a thickening of branches that could be a nest near the top of the tree.
I had a cuckoo calling about 10/15m away from the house last weekend, I’ve never heard one so close. The hoopoes are fearless and love strutting about on my roof or in the courtyard, they come right up to the house and sit on windowsills etc. I love seeing them fossicking about in the grass.
I’ve been hearing cuckoos and as I believe they only call when on the wing (?) I scan the skies/horizons. Not seen one this year but, judging by the sounds, the little beggars are obviously flying just out of my sight

I loved the drongos with their amazing call!…I worked in Rwanda for a couple of years and the bird life there is extraordinary (together with the fruit bats and gecko and lizards and and and
I had cuckoos this year long ago now. I think that having heralded summer they might have headed North to bring the good news to Normandy and Brittany…
We’ve downloaded this and had great fun over the past couple of days identifying the birds around our property. Coffee time lasts twice as long though!
