Drat. Missed it this year. When’s the earliest time I can try to start potato growing?
Very impressed with yours Wozza. And couldn’t agree more about the drenching of French supernarket potatoes with chemicals and that it’s hard to find good ones.

Ready to be dug up
, all of mine died off a week ago .
Not sure, I planted late and think I have a month or so to go. I’ll have to lok at my gardening folder!
Hmmm as I thought they shouldn’t be ready yet! Should I pull that one out just in case it’s diseased???
Scrolled back instead!! ![]()
Could be natural die back, weak plant, looks like some fugal damage too. I’d cut the foliage back to ground level or dig it up.
Damn stupidly left it and more plants look dodgy. Cut off the original one and have taken photos. I’ve also been crap at watering so winder if it’s partially water stress ![]()
Good time for checking your brassicas for butterfly eggs and ![]()

Look under the leaves.
I’m guessing bees are fertilising some of my yellow cougettes from the green plants? Doesn’t happen the other way around though!
Nice looking courgettes
I’d say cross pollination from last year not this year. Did you keep some seeds from last season?
No, they were seeds I ordered. Didn’t realise they could do that! Clever things plants!!
How are the Baz doing? I’m going to sow some for Christmas
We grow ours under enviromesh otherwise it’s a nightmare keeping on top of the little blighters. Do you squish the caterpillars or what else do you do?
I rub off the eggs and squish the caterpillars ![]()
These were on my kohlrabi
In my normal state of organisation I’ve still not planted them
. Nor have I bought any seedlings so currently buying lettuce which is ridiculous!!!
Eek! I should check my curly kale. When can I start harvesting them? I currently get rid of bottom ones gone brown to the chickens. Never grown them before. They’ve been in a month or so.
The dwarf curly kale can be used any time as soon as the leaves are big enough. If you just pick a few leaves, more will grow. I tend to keep it for winter but we had some of ours the other day because we couldn’t face shopping and the weather wasn’t summery. Very nice it was too! We had some cavalo nero a few days later…
Kales are wonderful things
Young Russian kale leaves are great in salads too.
I don’t know what mine is
I might pick some next time I do a curry or Thai and see. I presume I pick from the bottom?
That’s what I do, anyway!
Nettle purin spray on leaves. They don’t like the smell, and I don’t blame them.
