Giffgaff SIM card don't understand

“Pedant mode on”
Why do people use the phrase PAC code?
The initials stand for Porting Authorisation Code so you don’t need to use the word code after the three initials.
It’s almost as frustrating when I hear people saying PIN number. A Personal Identification Number, you don’t need to repeat the word number.

I am happy for you Nigel if that’s all you have to worry about  that kind of pedant applies to so many acronyms.

RAS Syndrome

Which is mis-named as many of the common examples are initialisms (though PIN and PAC are, indeed, acronyms)

eg

LCD display = Liquid Crystal Display display
CRT tube = Cathode Ray Tube tube (one for the oldies)
ATM machine = Automated Teller Machine machine

etc

RIS syndrom anyone?

While I’m as pedantic as the next on this, I fear that argument is lost in today’s common usage.

I would see that the initials have replaced the actual words in people’s thinking, hence PIN number.

Anyway RIS = really irritating syndrome?

Can we leave off the puns for a while, they were starting to give me a headache.

In this particular case, I got autocorrupted - not whether that’s funny or not. :stuck_out_tongue:

I rather assumed that was the case but the opportunity was too good to waste.

I assume you have a suitable PUNishment in mind?

Just done that. When I have time to breathe and get my head round all this I’ll change, but for the moment is just to take out a rolling monthly plan and see how that goes.
