This is one reason I always reverse park in supermarkets etc. Less stressful as I can drive forward straight out. So one less distracting factor and some chance I might stay on the right side of the road.
My challenge now is not coming out onto the right side of the road when I’m in England
What keeps me safe is the density of traffic. I’m usually in a queue so it’s more difficult to make a mistake. I did have a “moment” when I came up to a T-junction with traffic lights and I was turning right, with nobody waiting at the lights. Which side of the road to go??? Fortunately before I moved off (and got it wrong) someone drove up.
Indeed. Years of imprinting do occasionally result in a moment of doubt - bordering on panic. Coming out of a T junction onto a road, left and right, can induce this.
I have a view of a steep hill running straight away from me, from my kitchen window. As vehicles turn onto this road and come into view, at top or bottom, I still have a strange feeling that they’re on the wrong side of the road!
