Greetings and Sanitations!

Provided your mother can speak French and is healthy enough to cope with life in general… perhaps you could simply come to France with her for the first few weeks, while she settles in ???

Subsequently, you could visit her as and when convenient all round.

I was planning on moving anyways, just not necessarily to France. Then she asked me if I would consider moving to France with her, so now I’m considering it.

That is of course the alternative option. But it’s hard for a person to judge how they’ll do alone in a foreign country with no family support and maybe A1 language skills, especially with health issues to keep up with. I could go over for a month at first and then after I come back maybe things don’t go so well, then I have to go back over. But if I move there too, things will be fine, though maybe not fine for me.

agreed… but your mother has presumably thought this through… as she’s prepared to go without you. (you’ve not mentioned her mental state, so I presume that is OK).

Find her an area where there are English speakers and a good Medical service… make sure she has enough money to live comfortably now and later on (when she might need Care)… and visit her as and when you can…

If you eventually find the answer to your Car question is positive… all well and good. If not, you might have to decide where your priority lies… not always an easy decision.

best of luck

“The reason I say that France hates cars is because it is almost impossible to import a non-European car to France,”

We build cars, just get one, pffffff

My goodness, I hadn’t noticed, you’re absolutely right. Problem solved tysm.

Yes, but unfortunately most of them aren’t very good.

Pfff they are devices for getting from A to B, too many people ascribe a load of ego related nonsense to them.

Indeed. For me, if a vehicle gets me from A to B in relative comfort and doesn’t break down then that’s alI need.
My best car ever was a little Hyundai i10. I had it for about 9 years before moving to France and never had to have anything done to it beyond the normal such as tyres, brake pads etc. I gave it to a friend who seven years later is still driving it around. It’s still never broken down or needed more than the normal spending on it.
