Has anyone successfully appealed tax fonciere or habitation?

You should be able to. The form can be filled in electronically, so should be capable of being attached.

I believe you can, in fact I believe that is what they expect/prefer you to do

La mairie est une collectivité territoriale qui a pour principale mission de satisfaire les besoins quotidiens de la population . Ses attributions sont multiples : état-civil, urbanisme et logement, écoles et équipements, activités culturelles, santé et aide sociale, police …

Noting how some love to tease me for advising “contact the Mairie”… I thought I’d take a look at the official description of the role of one’s Mairie…

and it’s explained thus…
“to serve the everyday needs of the population…”
and the list of those needs… goes on… and on…

Now, I’m aware that not every Mairie has the manpower/ability to fully offer all the functions…
but, at the very least, one’s Mairie should be able to offer help/advice on where/how to find the answers/information which they themselves cannot supply.

Yes, my Mairie offers a stellar service in so many aspects… but not all… and a few things have to be done at a “big” Mairie… in the Town…
but advice/help/encouragement at local level smooths the way.

This is what our residents need/want and the Mairie staff, the Maire and the Council work hard to keep everything running smoothly…

Those are critical words that are missing in my mairie! So much less effort just to say no.

There have been moves afoot to close small Mairies… so perhaps your’s can be on the list… sounds like it won’t be missed…

On the other hand… manifestations and the guillotine will be rumbling around here if anyone threatens our local Mairies…

Our own mairie is now down to being open just 1 morning a week (Wed), talk about a drop in public service. Contacting them via email is incredibly slow and inefficient, when and if, they deign to offer a reply. When we first arrived in the commune, the mairie was open 4 days a week. With the removal of the taxe d’hab, there’s no money in the communal budget to staff the mairie on a more frequent open-to-the-public basis, apparently.

It’s been planned to be amalgamated with two other communes for years now. But yet to happen. I’d quite like to keep a maries, just not the current staff!

it’s down to the Maire… he can bring in extra staff if your current secretaire won’t change/improve…

The Mairie in our village is more or less the same, only open two afternoons a week. But in our nearby town, which is really no more than a big village, there’s a wonderful place run by france-service.gouv.fr. Staffed by very helpful people, no appointment required, open Monday to Friday. They provide help for everything to do with public finances, admin and bureaucracy in general. They even helped the other day when the storm caused a power cut and we couldn’t get any information from Engie or EDF. This office is now our first port of call if we need any assistance. Is it one of a kind or do other towns have them?

Thanks for that link (which is missing a final ‘s’ on “services”, but I worked around it). Turns out, our nearest one is 9 km away, but at least it is open more often :+1:

National, and usually great.

Only downside is that it allows staff to be cut in tax offices etc.

I don’t know if this applies nationwide… our nearest France Services, as well as providing excellent support from their office in a nearby village, also head out in a converted minibus, to attend regular surgeries in other villages. My wife has been co-opted into making coffees and conversations with “clients” waiting to discuss problems with counsellors in the mini bus.

Hey Sue_K
This is very useful - thank you
I’ve found an office near me so will visit when I return in January . I can even incorporate a 20km bike ride to get there. win win

I’ve messaged IMPOTS and asked to submit an H1 form but will also go to this office to see if there’s any other useful advice available.

I spent yesterday making a scaled drawing of my property and I am more and more convinced that the quoted square meterage in my sale attestation is wrong.
I think one of the main cadestre measurements is wrong too.

Presumably the wrong measurements of the footprint of the premises and land will lead to incorrect taxation.

We have them here mostly in local post offices. They got my son his first french ID card and passport sorted recently as he cannot get to the mairie some miles away that deals with the paperwork as the times clash with his job.
