Have space - need idea

That's a good idea. Internet access draws a crowd and then upsell....

Clothes exchange . . . especially kids clothes. Depot vente style where you take a percentage of sale price. Our local one does a roaring trade.

We really considered the coffee idea for a while, but not brewing.

Peter

I have a French friend who has recently moved to our region (82) from Paris. She is currently converting an apartment she has purchased in our local village to a shop. Upstairs has a 2 bed flat which she has rented out and downstairs, is due to open in May.

The foot traffic information from the local office de tourisme is approx 40,000 p/a and our village is only 1,000 residents! We are on the Saint Jacques de Compostelle and are also a Plus Beau Village which helps. Plans are already well advanced to open the shop as a tourist shop. She will be selling all types of local produce made within 30km of our village. Anything from fois gras, pate and jams, wines and fruit juices to locally made artisan crafts, hand made cards, baskets, wooden products paintings by local artists and small items to decorate the home that can be easily carried. She will also offer little paper picnic bags for the walkers on the compostelle, and will be complimented by bread from the local bakery! There is an odd mezzanie type space to one side of the shop which she is going to set aside for two small tables with magazines, a coffee machine and internet access.

Fingers crossed for her is will work, but so far all comments by the tourist board and locals alike are favourable. She has found only one other person doing the same type of things and similar products in France, so the opportunity is either huge or a big mistake.....time will tell, but I have everything crossed for her.

Maybe this type of this would be worth investigating where you are.

Good luck

Coffee and tea house / micro brewery. That way you brew on the off season and sell during tourist time. Could even make your own malt on site.

You could call it “Midi Trouvé” iv got a good few “AG” clone beer and ale recipes if you like.
