Where did you hear that? Are Bloctel throwing in the towel? If they lost funding, that would explain why so many of us had Bloctel work for years… Then about 6 or 7 months ago the floodgates opened and spam calls many days.
Saracroche hasn’t let a single call through so far. The 5 euro donation I made on the app has more than paid for itself in less stress.
Units Plus app is great for offline unit conversion between Imperial / Weird American and Sensible Metric units.
Bloctel is being turned off….
Yes you can select which country playstore you use. I have a separate email addy for both countries. Some apps aren’t geofenced thank goodness
Quite. 《 fiendish laugh 》
For recent iThings, there’s a Magnifier (with flashlight) you can add to your Control Centre (one finger swipe down from top right corner of Home Screen).
The triumph of hope over expectation possibly?
I find this to be a complete pain with my iPad as you can only get apps from one country and changing is a pain.
weather24 has a rain radar function
Ooooh, clever, thanks I’ll give that a try! Meanwhile BBC Sounds still works on my old iPad, which I’m keeping purely for that reason haha
Don’t think it’s one that few people know about, but I wouldn’t be without Google Translate.
I especially like the feature that uses the camera, to translate signs etc. “on the fly”, so to speak.
jealous
I’d like to offer RainAlarm, gives an accurate 15 min past radar to predict where a rain pattern might hit your location
CityMapper, good in towns for public transport and giving timely directions when cycling
I use Copilot for translations. You can paste or type English and ask it to translate to French in a formal, friendly or even amusing style.
On one occasion I was given a handwritten list of 7 appointments for health visits. The handwriting was appalling and difficult to read. I took a photo of the page and asked copilot to translate, which it did.
More than that, it offered a file which I could import directly into Google Calendar so I would not forget my RDVs.
I just wanted to say that this topic/thread is facinating and also very informative - and I have downloaded a couple of Apps as a result.
Thanks @Mik_Bennett for starting this topic - we should keep this as a reference - is there some way of pinning this thread?
Yogesh
I have no idea yogesh, I am not a forum expert. Perhaps you could ask @billybutcher.
I must admit I have learnt a lot too. The newpipe.net post by @Juliet looks like an interesting way to watch YouTube. (not just because it gets rid of ads).
FWIW I subscribe to YouTube Premium - both to get rid of the ads and to support the channels that i watch - they get a slice from YTP in lieu of the ad revenue.
Given that I watch YT much more than any other form of TV it seems fair.
I have a myriad of apps on my phone, most of them for obvious stuff like banking, Amazon, supermarket loyalty (Sainsbury’s, Super U, E Leclerc), parking service apps etc.
For weather I mostly use the Met Office and Météo-France ones, but I also refer to Scope Nights and ClearOutside to find out when they sky will be clear for astrophotography. Those apps don’t always agree with the weather forecast apps!
To find out what’s visible in the night sky I use Stellarium.
And then there’s the apps for Direct Ferries, Brittany Ferries and DFDS to keep track of my bookings, and Bip&Go for tolls.
And PetrolPrices to find cheaper fuel - it works in both UK and France.
For drone users as well as the IGN map overlay already mentioned, the UK Drone Assist app also shows no-fly zones in France, although without the confusing tiny ones that cover every individual village! ![]()
