Not sure about the meaning of that ![]()
Hee hee….
He means my french horn practice will sound, to nearby neighbors, akin to cows on fire…
Right, @Porridge ?
Ah, country life and country sounds
![]()
Ahhh, your French horn practice.
We have a similar situation. Close proximity to a farm - across the road actually.
Dairy breeding cows trott to their ‘day pasture’ after the morning milking and trott back to the milking parlor in the evening and on to the night pasture. The beef herds around aren’t really bothersome either.
Our daily rhythm follows farmlife. Tractors- not very noisy actually, milk truck twice a day, posting in the morning.
Yes there are flies and yes ever so often manure gets spread and it’s ‘eau de cow’ in the air for a day.
None of this has ever stopped us from enjoying our life in France. Beef from the herds are sold at the local butchers and SuperU. Our farming neighbour helps out whenever we ask for assistance. A small hamlet - part of Pressignac.
We get probably more noise pollution from the airbase near the coast sending their training flights over the lakes…
But then we are not Townies and moved from a small town in Scotland so were used to the sounds and smells of the countryside.
I think that’s what he means ![]()
Just don’t invite the whole Banda to practise at yours…![]()
Nor the orchestra ![]()
Surely it should be a “cor anglais”? ![]()
I know.
But it needed to be anglais…
My god daughter who, like her dad, can play anything designed to make music and many things that aren’t [ teaspoon on fire extinguisher = cow bell on ‘Way Of The Sun’/Island Records] had her mum’s old oboe

Being handy with the Eng lang, as well, after a rather unsatifactory session on this oboe she said,
“Mum. Dad. I really need an oboe where you can’t see the wood for the keys”
Cor blimey . . .
Here are photos of the interior of the house. More of the extérieur coming later on….
The first is one of the bedrooms upstairs. The others show the ground floor lounge, rear entry with stair and the kitchen area (plumbed but with no fixtures) with the big old fire place. I’ve asked for more photos.
We were listening to something the other night and, when Madame asked what the instriment playing the melody was, I told her it was an oboe.
Then lost confidence and had to check.
Turns out its French name is hautbois.
If you haven’t yet listened, Mozart’s oboe concerti are supreme examples of what the instrument can do.
I once had a week’s unintended holiday in Egypt, at a 5* hotel at Heliopolis, courtesy of - indirectly - the Egyptian Min of Defence failing to give us clearance to fly a De Haviland Buffalo into the Negev to have its picture taken.
Some of the time we took our ease by the pool until the ground staff decided to tend to the rose beds. This involved spreading camel dung yea deep all over and around. The plague of flies was as per biblical.
I agree. I’m daily up to here with stuff from ‘Bien ici’ and French-Property.com. Have been for many months. Have got a reasonable take on what goes for what, where.
Considering the amount of work and kit needed to complete this house I’d say it’s on for +/- double what it will eventually fetch. Does it have a fosse septique to regs? That’s a major expense. Many an SFista will come up with the usually eyewatering figure. Wiring? I see danglings from the ceilings …
The issue of the right of way and the farming activity next door is what I have seen SFistas advising as a straight “Walk away”. There are plenty similar but without that issue.
Everywhere has its price, even my Plywood Shack will sell for some piffling sum. In this case a reality reset is in order.
How can he make money on only 15 or 20 cows?
Here’s one that should give pause for thought to the asking price of the house Country House for sale in Poitou-Charentes, Vienne (86), Brigueil-le-Chantre | French-Property.com
No mention of problems with access or annoying activities nearby but in the absence of any of these, an all-up-together attractive turn-key for the same price.
That’s a lovely house - wish I was in a position to move, I’d bite their hands off!
Beaux Villages do seem to handle some nice properties.
