I see it almost utterly pointless especially for me as I have recovered from the virus so will not be catching it again or passing it on. BoJo wearing a mask for a photo op is just as pointless for the same reasons.
Oh, itās all about you then. I must have missed the headlines about scientists proving that individuals will only be able to catch Covid-19 once and the ones that show that the Covid virus cannot be passed on by people who do not have the disease.
When did the say that those who have had it once canāt be re infected? Or pass it on to someone else?
So Nigel have you stopped hand cleansing too?
IMO the two MOST importent things we punters can do, that is ALL of us can do, is mask wearing and hand cleansing. That was true in March and it is still true today. You wandering around confined spaces without a mask only encourages others to do so. Nobody knows youāre immune (and BTW, neither do you, the NHS or the WHO - post infection immunity is not well understood yet).
The Czechs have had it right from fay one IMO.
None of the above argues against the fact that Johnson and and his team of clowns have done a dreadful job. But just because they are giving some good advice now is no reason to shun it.
Nigel is a doctor apparently
Nigel, there is no agreement on the amount of immunity or for how long for people who have tested positive for Covid.
There is agreement, however, that wearing a mask will be beneficial so that people who are asymptomatic do not spread their droplets.
By the way, Iām all right Jane!
Since there have been millions infected & no cases of re-infection there is good empirical evidence that those who recover have immunity at least for many months.
Source? Nige.
Hand washing does have value in controlling spread of infection. Whether wearing masks has any effect is very debatable.
Of all the millions who have been infected there are no credible reports of re-infection so we know immunity lasts at least 6 months.
The virus can theoretically be spread by those without the disease but wearing masks doesnāt prevent that while hand washing would,
Excuse me, Nigel, but I do not breathe through my hands.
There are no reports of re-infection. The virus can theoretically be passed on by those without the disease but that can only be prevented by hand washing as wearing a mask will not prevent transmission from fomites.
Those who have recovered from the virus thus now immune will not pass on the disease by breathing while they can theoretically do so with their hands.
Not unless I touch them or something they have touched.
They can however, pass it on whilst walking past me on the street, not that I walk on streets now, for that very reason, mask or no mask.
but how many they infected by not wearing a mask is unknownā¦
dāya feel lucky, punk? [source: Dirty Harry]
The group of scientists that wrote to the government in the past few days said the opposite. They claim that wearing masks to prevent the spread of the virus through aspiration is far more important than washing hands. Everyone whether ill or not can carry and transmit the disease. That includes you and Mr Johnson. I certainly wouldnāt shake hands ar get too close to either of you.
Well they do say that the virus can cause unknown complications, which are obvious in BoJo.
As both Mr Johnson & I have recovered from the disease neither of us is going to pass it on by breathing or coughing so wearing a mask is pointless unless itās just virtue signalling & pour encourager les autres.
Hi Nigel⦠so, youāve recovered from the virus⦠good news for you.
However, wearing a mask is an effort to avoid transmission of the virus⦠and there is no proof that a ārecovererā might not subsequently carry and transmit the virus to othersā¦
Thus seeing someone wearing the mask does give other folk some comfort.
It shows that the wearer is conscious of others⦠and, in the main it is felt that a mask-wearer is more likely to be following the good advice about gel/distancing/whateverā¦
such a simple gesture⦠and I cannot understand why so many folk rail against itā¦
