Whilst all this is to the good Paul, we know that here are those who refuse to wear masks and go out to illegal get togethers, music raves etc with no social distancing and then go about their everyday business, just ready to pass on their infections.
There is certainly a Nigel Barker of roughly the right age and current workplace on the medical register.
The problem is there will be no advanced warning of the risk becoming higher so people can decide to mask up.
I thought from an earlier post of yours in another thread that the medical registration facility couldnât be relied upon these days
I said a paper copy couldnât be relied upon - for the same reason the Police wonât rely on a printed certificate of insurance. Things can change.
But I re-checked Nigelâs entry just before commenting.
It wouldnât surprise me. My daughter tells me of photos (albeit private to friends) of ex colleagues flaunting the quarantine rules. Fair enough, the rules may be rubbish but medics should at least give a semblance of a good example.
If Nigel chooses to wear a mask or not away from work is up to him, my objections were to the adamant statements he could not be reinfected or spread it
Indeed.
As I said Iâm not wearing a mask at present because I agree with Nigel that there is not much point unless everyone does it - but I would favour legislation that everyone should wear a mask when sharing an indoor space (except restaurants and bars for reasons of practicality).
They hadnât escaped me but itâs a whole other can of worms. Nigel is correct - there is no reliable evidence of reinfection so far (see eg COVID-19 Reinfection: Myth or Truth? - PMC) but his posts do seem to imply a degree of overconfidence that he could not be a(t) risk which Iâm not entirely comfortable with either.
Hi Paul, Iâm in the UK and still venturing out very rarely as I have a chronic illness. I tried a cloth mask on a recent supermarket trip but found it almost insupportable. My specs were misting up every time I breathed out and I found myself struggling to breathe. By the time I got to the checkout I was nearly blind, breathless, had a tight chest and could feel my heart racing. It was quite frightening.
Do you have any tips please for choosing a mask that doesnât restrict breathing and doesnât mist up specs?
Many thanks
Izzy x
My specs mist up all the time as well.
As for not restrict breathing - there is no evidence that a standard surgical mask alters gas exchange at all, even for those with respiratory conditions but I canât speak for individual designs of reusable masks, if I need one I just use the disposable ones.
I wanted to use a cloth mask to avoid using anything disposable but I would rather not go out than have to wear it again! I think I will have to get some disposable ones as I can see the law changing in the next few days.
Thanks for replying.

Unfortunately you canât teach common sense. Besides I suspect that anyone attending an illegal rave would not bother to wear a mask, even if the law said that they must.
Move slowly and stay relaxed.
Seems to help a bit if you exhale through the nose, but I agree it is a problem.
Inexpensive anti misting spays are readily available Irene.
I think âaway from other peopleâ is preferable to just away from work.
Thank you John, I will check them out.

Have people read Mark Francoisâs letter to Barnier and the scathing response he got? I canât find aPDF of Francoisâs letter online but this seems to be the gist of itâŚ
Found itâŚ
This is Barnierâs responseâŚ
Not for much longer apparently.
The Barnier letter might be a bit challenging on smaller screens, so hereâs the link
