Scrape out any remaining contents (a silicon spatula is ideal) into your food waste and compost it.
There is a lot of automation involved but anything that canāt be positively identified is diverted for inspection by people. Itās very clever - I thoroughly recommend a trip to your local centre.
Thereās still the problem that mixing the paper with the other dirty stuff before separating it again spoils the quality of the paper. We keep it separate until we throw it in the bin.

Years ago I read somewhere about the way waste paper is processed, it is treated with bleach and other chemicals and is recycled normally as low-grade paper and cardboard. So if it is clean, stained, printed on, is coloured, etc doesnāt matter. Someone else might know better . . . .
