All routers are better with OpenWrt (well, those that are supported, anyway).

The OpenWrt Project is a Linux operating system targeting embedded devices. Instead of trying to create a single, static firmware, OpenWrt provides a fully writable filesystem with package management.

I think I live on a different planet to most people - in this world but not of it is how I feel most of the time. I naïvely presumed I’d cope better with my autistic/ADHD geekyness and nerdism having recognised it for what it was - nothing of the sort unfortunately, if anything it is getting worse (apparently this is not uncommon after diagnosis whether self-made or “official”).
It’s the software that makes the router tick, it’s open source and has many advantages in terms of flexibility, functionality, transparency, sometimes performance and definitely security as it is frequently updated. But I’d be the first to admit that it’s not for you if you think a subnet is for catching fish or wearing under hosiery

Interestingly, I had a fairly heated discussion with a friend the other day. I was saying how much I liked Chris Packham and there was this deadly silence. She dislikes “labels” and thinks it’s wrong - why can’t people just be accepted and not put in a box, etc? I suggested it was obvious he has very much broken out of “a box” and shown what is possible and that he is an excellent role model. She disagreed and said why does anyone need to know? She is probably “on the spectrum” (she knows it herself) and knows so much about everything I definitely want her as my partner in a pub quiz (not to demean what being on another planet can mean). I said I thought that it was helpful for (some) people later in life to know what they are, as for much of their lives they felt adrift because they didn’t “fit”. She disagreed. We decided to change the subject.

I’d never considered possibly being neuro diverse until a work colleague pointed out some of my ‘obvious’ characteristics. Things that I made myself deal with because they were not right were apparently linked. It can make you ‘other’ yourself when you know, which isn’t ideal too.
Sometimes it feels like the whole world is trying to justify fundamentally wrong behaviour through mental health problems.

I think it might be a good idea to reflect that we are all of advanced ages..or at least not in first bloom.of youth and some of us have had had multiple technical experiences over a lifetime..This comment is in reference to Billy butchers technical.prowess and not to what this thread is weaving into … I do have other comments regarding the “Spectrum” and where people are on it ..but not for now
If you toddle along to a local, or otherwise, electrical factors you will be able to buy a gel filled box. These will allow you to connect in a totally waterproof manner.

Never heard of such things before, but they look an excellent idea.
Certainly are for outdoor applications, there are single shot compounds that allow re adjustment and two pack potting conpounds that don’t

Try this - both your routers are on the same IP if they are on factory config. You will need to manually change one to a new IP of your choice for example 192 168 1 100 and the other 192 168 1 1 and the DHCP Range different on both would also be good too. that’s the WIFI method or via a network cable.
As long as the login IP is different on each you should be fine , Its a but like having two bottles of wine and the glass doesn’t know which one is red or white or empty , its like giving twins a key to the car and then knowing which has the key! And that’s when their names come in handy
I cannot get onto TP-Link’s website to do this. All the time I’m being timed out by google. You maybe putting it in the Google Search Engine rather than address bar: You will also need a cat 5 cable to connect one router to the other for comms for the internet connection…

Not necessarily, depends on the network address that the manufacturers chose.
IF the routers are different subnets then the quickest is to go with plugging the WAN interface on the TP link to a LAN interface on the Livebox. This seems to be how Sue has set things up and it will work just fine.
In fact the issue turned out to be forgetting to plug one of the Ethernet cables in.

Only partly. Also, the final connector/join that I checked turned out to have failed (water? or lightning?)

I think there are several good routes! to get to the same solution haha
Router and Wi-Fi Extenders with data ports, might be the best route keeps things very simple
If the cottage is not far away from the house
Some ISPs will even throw them in free if you ask for them
ISTR Sue saying the gîte was quite a distance from the house.
Outdoor PtP (Point-to-Point) if you want to get rid of the cable in between the house and the cottage. Or single Outdoor WiFi Extender for a better range.
We’ve discussed many options.
